Y U so pricey.
Because it does more than just being an ANT+ transmitter.
ANT+ attenuates really badly through even a small amount of water, so this buffers all of your HR data until you are out of the water, before sending it to your watch.

Get it bundled.
It'll be loads cheaper.
If you want pool use there's a HR-swim belt. Does the logging thing, and has a wider sticky strap to still stable.
The HR-tri does both clever run metrics and swim loggingThere's a bundle with both belts. Which would be best I guess.

I know.
The HR-run that I have is pricey bought separately. Because of the clever motion sensors. So it not really the logging adding the cost alone. -

So my max heart rate is 197. And I averaged 190 over a 25 mile course (London tri on sat) for 1hr08. Does that mean my threshold HR is 190? Seems too close to max to make sense?
Fuck, I don't even hit 190BPM avg when running a 5k sprint, let alone when cycling for an hour. Something looks dodgy, or you're a freak, or both?

My max is 205 (though I haven't seen it for a while) and I've averaged over 190 for a 25 before. But I think high average HR is a sign of bad pacing, rides that I know I've paced well with PM have lower average HR than badly paced rides with lower average power.

Could be decoupling as a result of fatigue from the swim.

Freakishly awesome maybe.
Don't know really. Everyone's different I guess.

Froome max HR around 165 if I remember #pulses4cuntses

Max HR needs to be taken in context with other metrics.
You could just have a tiny, tiny heart that needs to beat faster to do its thing
And yes you are dying

Wow, my max is 198. I'm obviously not pushing hard enough!

Completely individual, so not worth comparing. Try a hillclimb, you'll soon find out your max.

CX race will do it, too :)
Or just run up swaines lane at full gaz

I don't know what my absolute max HR is, but the highest it's been in the last few months was 179 towards the end of a 10mTT. I often see that other peoples HR seems to be higher and sometimes wonder if it's because I'm soft, but yesterdays 50 definitely felt like tough work to me... 166 average for the full 50, 172 Max. Generally I just put it down to individual variation.

Max HR on its own is no indicator of athletic performance as I understand it. Happy to be corrected though.

it's not

I think you were correct when you said that a high max HR is a result of having a small heart which would need to beat faster to get the same flow rate.

That's the reason for mine; as diagnosed by an ECG and ultrasound scan by http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/ back when I was young (under 35).
It can hit >200bpm when playing 5-a-side, usually only as high as 190bpm during a run, and only as high as 185bpm when cycling. All of the above points to me needing to train to raise my LT. Resting HR in the low 40s (despite a smaller than average heart) which points to relatively good CV efficiency.

My FTHR increased notably this year. I thought I was getting stronger and thus needed more blood.
Turns out my hearts shrinking.
Feck.

Power2Max SRAM rival for ~£450 brand new (including chainset):
Oooh, nice. Will look to get one when I get my 920XT (or equivalent) early next year...
