True. It was hard work but great fun. The wood chippings in the wooded section were a reminder of what to expect in a few months.
Sadly my first attempt at going tubeless ended my race just before the last lap.

Last night was fun, but probably my least favourite race of the series so far, the pack seemed to get strung out very quickly so I spent a lot of time riding solo with not much battling. As @laner (I think you were the NLTCBMBC?) said, very tough on singlespeed- the wooded section and the drag up the back before the grassy switchbacks killed me every time.

I loved jumping off the bike, running up the stairs and then remounting for the short, fast descent.
But those planks. I hate the planks!

You're gonna love Herne hill then!

The hill at the back and then the descent?
Are there still steps at HH? -
• #3332
Hmmm... good question. I don't remember them being there at the one training session I turned up to.

I see bunny hopping training in your future...

That's good. Unless you want to see someone (me) politely waiting at the bottom while everyone else rides past/runs past.

• #3335
I thought there are two sets of permanent steps at HH now?
-
• #3336
:-) I might manage the first lap

We weren't going to make the same mistake as last week! There was some looking at each other in the group but it was quick enough to split up in the last few laps.

Was good fun. Hard, but good fun. T

Good job!

Thunderstorms forecast for Thursday! With any luck conditions at Herne Hill will match last year's race.

• #3345
lol yeah
Think I might dig around in the shed for a really knackered derailleur.
-
• #3346
I might just make it a quadruple no-show

Very tempted to invest in e.g. a DMR STS and a couple of surly cassette cogs to try this SSCX lark.
Don't reckon I'll be able to get my hands on all of that before Thursday though...

As we near the anniversary of last year's damp SummerSeries at HH, let us not forget and spare a thought for those 22 brave rear-mechs that gave their lives on that fateful night.
Loved the course though. You'll all miss the speed and flow when we're splashing around wivelsdon farm later in the year!
