  • That's cool, 100s are good training anyway.

  • Yeah more testing fueling and that kind of thing than riding. Still need experience.

And thanks for posting stuff when you see it.

  • This may be an earlier option for general experience ? These things can be ridden as seriously as you want, I suppose.

    Early June-ish .

  • More and more British races are being added to the UMCA calendar...

  • never entered an open CTT event.. as far as I can gather I can just enter one provided I am part of a affiliated club?

  • as far as I can gather I can just enter one provided I am part of a affiliated club?

    Yes

  • Set a new PB on the B25/33 course in Fincham today, with a 1:00:58. This was helped by the fact that on this occasion, unlike last year, I didn't get lost and drop my water bottle. Obviously my Aerocoach trip strip socks made all the difference.

@Cycliste set the fastest time of all the laydeez, on 1:07:38, so that means her prize money so far this year has paid for her skinsuit. #prolife

  • P.S. Any tips on being moah aeroz welcome. At the moment getting rid of the spacers under the arm rests isn't really an option - I'm working on my flexibility, but I think at the moment that's as low as I can go. And I'm also keenly aware that my elbows need to come backwards quite a bit to comply with the 3cm rule. To be fair, most of the time my arms are quite a bit further back, but I do have a tendency to move around quite a bit on the bike, in particular shuffling forwards on the climbs.

  • Could you get your head a bit lower, perhaps with the shallow tailpiece? Try and get the tops of your hands parallel to your forearms as well.

  • Given my current levels of neck flexibility (negligible) I don't think I can get my head much lower. As you can see from the photo, I'm rather straining my neck to get it in that position! I'll try and concentrate on keeping my hands on top of the extensions, although I'm actually thinking of going for ski-bends rather than S-bend extensions, partly in order to try and stop myself moving around on the bike so much. I'm wondering if having ski-bends might stop me from shuffling forwards so much.

  • Oh how they mocked me and now... ur in my threadz stealin' my lookz

  • It's an homage to your mightiness...

  • 10 mile PB tonight but I'm gutted to be honest. 22.03 and I've been desperate to get a 21 on a club course this season. I know it's because I wasn't brave enough on a couple of RABs but now I'm thinking I wish I hadn't been too lazy to put my fast tyre back on the front and other such silliness.

Aside from the moaning I was given a profile shot taken by a club member the other week. Can't seem to get my head down in line with my back. I do make an effort to tuck it in too.

  • Ahem... 3cm rule...

  • Yeah, long position innit. Hadn't realised until I saw that picture. Any shorter at the front and I feel like I could slip off the end of the extensions. What is that 3cm rule exactly? Genuine question.

  • I know it causes controversy, but what exactly is the 3cm rule "for"? I suppose to prevent the superman position?

This could cause problems for me too... I was sizing up Pre Cursa frames the other day and in order to replicate my position on my P2 I'd either need buy a tiny frame combined with an enormous stem (and thus likely flouting the 3cm rule). Or, if I sized my frame based on reach, then I'd need some weird stumpy negative stem to drop my bars below the height of the head tube (probably an ergo-stem).

Given that TT bikes tend to be longer and lower than track bikes the 3cm rule seems to make it difficult to convert a track frame into a fixed TT bike and stay within the rules...

  • Found it. Definitely do not comply.

  • Its to prevent Supermanism isn't it?

  • Presumably, but you clearly aren't in an excessively stretched out position, and neither would I be. However, in order to find a track bike that fits my position I would need to buy a tiny frame to ensure that the stack was correct, and then extend my reach with a long stem, thus pushing me out beyond 3cm, all the while maintaining exactly the same arm/torso angle as on my current (legal) geared TT bike... seems stupid.

  • I agree. My policy is not to worry about it as I've never seen anyone scrutinise a machine at a CTT event.

Plus you'd need to be mindful of the bar height being no less than 80% of saddle height rule if you did theoretically want to comply with everything with your track frame sizing difficulties.

  • Any shorter at the front and I feel like I could slip off the end of the extensions

You could always try sitting on the saddle, that would move everything back about 10cm :-)

  • Its to prevent Supermanism isn't it?

Possibly, although it wouldn't actually prevent a determined sheddist (e.g. Obree) from using the superman position and still being 3cm-compliant, since one could simply build a frame with a very long reach. It does, in theory, keep the tiller length down to a reasonable value, which makes it possible to steer effectively while on the tribars.

  • It just feels so good.

  • Ah gotcha, so maybe I could have saved those 3 seconds by having more confident handling on the RABs if I'd shortened the position.
