And best of all charge nonsense: they are still using a half-link chain... -

Triton appear to have them in stock already! I'm tempted

Tweeted Charge to ask if they'll be available as a frameset.

Seat angle tho. Why do all cheap bikes have such weird geometry..
Edit. Wasn't that bad. Looked pompino-ish at first glance..
-
• #3032
The original geometry was very sensible, 73 degree from the smallest to the largest, fit quite a large range of people.
-
• #3033
Yeah, thats the next bike methinks.

I have an all city macho man, it's a great frame but now I have a road bike and a Mtb, the gears on the AC are no longer needed. So was wondering how much it would cost to get SS dropouts on the frameset?
Cause getting a nature boy in my size is hard to find!

A White industries eccentric rear SS hub might be an easier route than new dropouts.
It's something to consider. -
• #3036
Easier, maybe.
Cheaper, when you consider the cost of the hub, plus spokes, plus wheelbuild labour, maybe not so much.
Bob Jackson say £105 for new dropouts plus an additional £30 for conversions ie road to track. Not sure what the extra charge is for.
I expect you could at least half that cost by shopping around.
You can buy track ends on ebay for about £10-15. A set of Paul Comp ends will only cost you £42 from BLB.
I suppose if you're getting new dropouts it might also give you an opportunity to add a disc mount.

it might also give you an opportunity to add a disc mount.
And an awesome new paint job :-)
-
• #3038
Haha God damn! I'll keep the 130mm rear spacing as then I have a larger range of stock wheels etc not interested in disk mounts as that would cost too much. Maybe some track dropouts from ebay and swap them out...
Paint job, now that's something to think about ;)

Always easier planning to spend others money :)
Forget paint, chrome dip FTW, i belive mud slides off chrome, or teflon coating, think of the advantages in muddy conditions. What budget do we have to fantasise with :)
-
• #3040
A realistic budget of a student haha.
Cheapest option Im down with. No SS chain tensioner
-
• #3041
Can't get cheaper than a magic gear ratio ( assuming you have access to a few different sized gears ).
-
• #3042
I havnt no. But I have a 10 speed cassttee that dismantles into individual cogs so I may try that soon
-
• #3043
I'm not mad on the idea of riding fixed that way, but I'm always running a slightly slack chain on my SSMTB, without any bother :-)
-
• #3044
Just be wary if using cassette sprockets for ss work, the deeper tooth ss ones are better and less likely to slipping the chain under load.
You will need a stack of spacers anyway so best to get a SS conversion kit with 16 or 18t sprocket and spacers required, not costly and much stronger. -

I did a shady conversion that works on mine.........

close up, automotive p-clip for engine bay cables and zip tie.
:) deep tooth sprockets and rings and good chain wrap, works well off road. Slide the p-clip forward to take out slack.
Did i say it was shady :)

Jesus that is shady!!
I'm not going to be running it fixed so there will be less strain on the chain I assume. Plus my commutes are pretty flat so it shouldn't be a problem.
My only issue with not having correct tension on the chain is when I want to get rad offroad, do a few skids and maybe some log hopping.
Need to find that magic gear then!

Here's a proper one, when this came out a couple of years ago they cost £35-40 you can find them around £25 (which is still a lot)
Mines just a ghetto version :)

Id rather use something like a dmr tensioner than that!!
Unless anyone has a 55cm nature boy they want to swap??
-
• #3050
If you were to get your dropouts swapped I think you could get away with removing paint only at bottom of the stays where the frame is painted white (it looks like it is wearing socks lol). After being welded on you could just paint the socks back on and you would save money on the conversion. For dropouts you could get hold of a damaged track frame and cut off the dropouts, remove the paint and leftover stays and brass. This way you only have to pay a frambuilder to swap the dropouts. Maybe you could even paint the socks on yourself?!
Felt should paint the Breed in sickfadez and steal all Charge's market share. #justsayin
