• Correct, I have one on my 70's cos Eagle, it hold the clamp on shifters in place, you'll need a set of clamps too, these frames were never made for brifters.

  • Yup, they also have the other sort at the bottom of the page. Where are the bottom bracket guides? Above or below? That one is made for the plastic under bracket guides.

  • Right, closer look at the frame and you have guides brazed on to the top of the bb shell?

    If you run the cables under the tube they might run on the tube as they cross on to the top, best get side mounting guides.

  • Hi, your frame is probably from the late 70s , early eighties or earlier. In those days, tere used to be less brazing on of guides, stops etc as it was believed that they made the frame weaker ; thought it was probably also done to reduce costs.

    The bump under the down tube is to stop the down tube shifters slipping. Your rear triangle may also need widening to take a 130 oln hub.
    Can't see the BB but you wil also probably need a bolt cable guide for the front and rear cables.
    Jumble sales or SJS will be your friends when it comes to finding the parts .

    the frame number will tell you the age.. i cant remember if its the first two digits or the last two though.

    • Condor emailed me back and they think that it is a late 70's Condor 531 Italia (Fast Tourer for shorter rides). Which is great, as I intend to use it for this and the odd Sunday smash around they countryside.

    • I've delaced the Ambrosio rims. I intend to sell them (any takers?) and get the hubs re-laced to some H+Son TB14s.

    • Also managed to grab some DA 7700 calipers.

    • Even got a FUCKING SHIM!

    Getting very close to completing.

  • I have a frame that looks very similar. I have spoken to Condor who suggest that I take the frame in to them to correctly identify it.
    I have a 105 5700 front / rear derailleur to put on it with 50/34 crank. Not checked to see if the BB will fit or not. I have a Condor branded ITM stem and ITM handlebars. Not sure about wheels yet either as not sure what size to use or what to do about the spacing, although did buy some Tektro deep drop brakes. Still trying to get my head round fitting of the rear derailleur as there are no holes under the BB to line up guides and no cable guides braised on. I can only assume that originally there was a band on cable guide. I also have a Condor branded Selle Italia saddle.
    Just got to spend some time putting it together and see what works. At some time I will take it to Condor Bikes....

    So I've decided to sack off the Condor frame after some minor concern over rusting and mostly trying to purchase a (not shit looking) shifter braze-on adaptor so that I can use modern brifters.
    Anyway, I had the hubs built onto some TB14s as planned with Sapim race spokes and wrapped with Panaracer Paselas:


    Such wheel, many lust, very build.

    As for the replacement; I just got hold of this 58cm Bill Nickson frame today, made from 25 Cro-Mo4 Micro Alloyed Dedacciai (so just 'Steel' then?) you might have spotted it on the 'bay:

    It also came with the original blue fork, which might go back on for that touch of old class.

    DA 7700 Brifters are in the post. Once I have my mitts on those I will be ready to build.

    Bit late to the party but buy a set of clamp on downtube shifters. Remove levers and attach brifter cable adjusters. I did that with an old DuraAce set on my Raleigh. Looks good.
