    Has Pomp.

    Has Wound Up.

Has been thinking about a build like this.

Really doesn't need have any practical use for a build like this...

  • FYI I just bought a pomp and the sale price is only for the blue (at least when I was buying it off the planet x website). Don't think the raw colour was/is on sale...

  • It seems to be different for each of the sizes - neither colour in small is reduced :(

  • Tru fax, thanks for correcting. Yeah it depends on colour/size for the discount - unless you want a small of course... :(

  • Yeah I want a small one!! Sad times

  • yeah those are 35c paselas. The profile of the tyre doesnt really fit those narrow vintage rims though.

  • Is it ridiculous to buy a carbon fork that costs the same amount as the frame and fork for my pomp? Seeing an amazing deal on a carbon cross fork but thinking if I do that this build is going to get out of hand.

  • No.

You'll feel a noticeable difference with a good pair of carbon forks. Probably more than if you "upgraded" the frame.

  • Could you PM me a link to the deal (assuming there's more than 1)....

  • yeah as hugo said, you might shave few hundred grams by getting a new frame and maybe feel a little bit differend but a good fork saves 500-700 grams and rides a lot better than the boat anchor the frame ships with

  • @eyebrows PM'd. Well maybe not amazing but what I think is a good deal on a pretty good fork. Hopefully I've not been an idiot...

  • Bought a tapered fork. Whoops. You learn something everyday.

Looks like it will probably be the Kinesis Crosslight Pure CX once this Columbus one goes back. Nuts.

  • I had one of those on my Pomp, but always preferred the ride with the original steel fork. Kinesis better for actual cross though, not much clearance on the Pomp fork.

  • What didn't you like about the Kinesis for day to day riding?

  • Longer A2C jacked the BB up a bit high for my tastes.

  • What do you guys think of the PlanetX AL30 D Wheels? Think they are stock on the Pompino? Thinking about a pair to upgrade from my old and broken beater wheels?

  • As usual @mdcc_tester is right, when I went 26inch i couldn't go any bigger on the tyre, in fact there was less room than for 700s (with the chain the optimal length) because of the position of the dimples.

Also going 26 on both wheels does lower the bb something rotten. Probably fine freewheel, but fixed (esp. Polo) was pedal strike city.

  • Did your saddle cost as much as the frame?

  • @sgt_spokes @youramericanlover Small Pomps are now in the sale on Planetx, I had sent them an email asking why every size wasn't included, maybe they listened!?

  • Thinking of a cheap daily Pomp build...

I run a 765mm seat height but am very much T-rex geo. Both my track bikes at 58.5 c to top with 55 top tubes.
Track bike for idea on size https://flic.kr/p/v2HWqx

Do we think an XL frame with zero stack and flat bars would be right? Thinking with a 100mm stem but worried I won't have 'enough' seat post showing.

Other option is a L frame but I didn't really want a spacer stack the height of Big Ben...

  • Yep I spotted that earlier.. and promptly pulled the trigger! Cheers for sending them an email

  • Possibly not. My pomp has a massive stack and I have 800mm saddle-bb.

  • @Khornight2 @mdcc_tester

I'll have to settle with 32s then. Thanks!

  • Ok so I want to try and take my pompetamine off road. Living near the Hadleigh Olympic track now so wanted to adapt it to a more xc style ride. It kind of looks like one now apart from being fixed and brakeless. I need to work out my options for wheels/disc/braking options and max tyre sizing possible. The forks are blb blt forks so no disc option or drilling or nowt. Rims are velocity b43 and hubs are track origin8

Want to do it on the cheapest way really to get it running.
