Hello.
Those of you who know me will be aware of my new lovely job in public health.
Through my organisation, I've become more aware of the work of Migrant Help and their hostel in SE London.
I've not visited, but I'm aware they have 120 beds and a requirement for clothes. As most of the people who turn up are likely to have what they're standing in, and a carrier bag containing 2 or 3 things they think are important to them. 80% of people are in and then gone the next day as they are moved to Liverpool or Manchester. As you can probably guess, the people coming through here have had a rough time. They're probably going to get sent back to where they spent the last year or more leaving. They've got NOTHING.
Now.
I know that Rapha offers a "lost weight, bring your kit in and we'll give you discount on the replacement". Which made me think. A lot of us have been porkers. And a lot of us took up cycling and have probably lost some mass. Some of us may have clothes you don't want to see again. You may even have clothes you fit now, but want to throw away. Or old and knackered baby clothes because you've bred and you're not having another and even if you did you wouldn't put them in last year's Cath Kidston.
WHATEVER.
What am I doing?
I'm talking with one of the hostel managers to try and work out what they're after, how it could/should be collected/delivered, and also what they're NOT after.
What am I asking?
If you're interested in making a donation of clothes (and whatever else I find out is needed/wanted), keep an eye on this thread. When I've got a better idea of how to ensure we collect ALL THE THINGS and then DELIVER ALL THE THINGS EASILY, I'll let you know on here.
What do you need to do?
If you're interested, keep an eye on this thread. Keep an eye on the things you'd normally donate and keep them to one side. When the collection can be arranged, I'll try and sort it out.
I know that this could get complicated. And perhaps lead to LOADS of stuff in my house or somewhere. It may even prove to be a massive PITA. But let's see eh?
