hmmm. i could do that. 5 weeks(ish) @ £20 per day, would have to add in flights home, all doable...

Wow, very cool - would definitely chip in for me and the wife but as we've a small person around not sure how well that would work out
Subscribed and best of luck - amazing thing to do! -

Do you have any experience with sailing with kids?
-
• #58
Yes, I sailed from Australia, around PNG and to the Philippines on a boat with kids onboard, aged between 4 months and 11 years.

much jealousy going on here at the moment. I read Moitessier's The Long Way many years ago and have harboured as secret desire to up sticks and sail around the world ever since..
Good luck with the project - will be following with interest.

I worked on a few boats (carpentry, not sailing) when I lived in Malta, one of the owners had as his life goal a circumnavigation - saved his whole life, finally got to live his dream when he retired.
Said he'd just got the spinnaker set, running before the wind, when he had a heart attack.
He now has to sail with a crew, said he still regrets not having done it earlier in his life when he was healthier.

Sounds amazing. I know a bit about sailing from when I used to play the fruit machines on cross-channel ferries. Good luck, and remember once you are a certain distance from shore all the drinks are duty free!

This is exactly why we're doing it now...

This sounds amazing! What you've done so far is so impressive. I am really jealous of your level of ability to make stuff.
I have always wanted to learn to sail and this sounds like a real opportunity for an adventure. Looking forward to seeing the progress, and I'm very keen to join you for a few weeks on the sea.

When do you think you'll be putting up your route plan?
-
• #66
Soon! Hopefully I'll get it sorted organise into a presentable format this weekend!

Great stuff I'll look forward to it.

Any more progress on this?

Sorry, I'm terrible with this internet thing. Not very good at keeping the blog up to date, yet alone this thread...
We've taken a bit of a break over christmas, to maintain some sanity, and climb some mountains. Also been doing some fund-raising work.
There is a bit of progress on the interior too, but I'm planning on getting my head down on the interior fit-out again from this weekend, and we should still be on target to launch this summer. -

Did you ever get the crowdfunding thing sorted out?
-
• #71
We're holding fire on that. I feel uneasy asking people for money.
We're trying to do it ourselves, and we're restoring a couple of old series land rovers at the moment, which, when we sell them, should cover the cost of finishing the boat off. -

Any updates? @Sam_Doman

I want to sail with you, just to try and absorb some photography mojo. Also the boat looks amazing.

Sorry to threae jack, guess it's the most relevant place.
Have no experience of owning operating a day yacht, but was amazed how cheap they come up for, guess it's either a flooded market, wrong time if year to sell (hoist and quayside storage fees are high?) or most boats just always need many thousands spend at any one time therfore they aren't worth much unless perfect?

This 50s 25' teak on oak one off built thing is only 2.5k and doesn't on the surface need all the money in the world immediately spent on it.
Very tempted by something like that to play around on west coast of Scotland -

Flooded market eh?
@chief_scrutter, the crossing itself will take approximately 3 weeks, but it's not quite a straight forward as that- we will have to wait for a suitable weather window, which may take up to a couple of weeks sitting at anchor...
