Hub won't be damaged. If you're extra cautious do as advised and replace all DS spokes.

Even if the hib is damaged you can stick a novatec in on the rebuild.
Or take the almost perfect excuse for a powertap.

Alright, ordering a full set of spokes. Anybody suggest a good fixer-upper of wheels in East?

any suggestions for a 10spd shimano compatible wheelset?
a friend bought a tiagra 105 shimano equipped bianchi, but it has come with fulcrum wheels and a campag cassette, which are quite worn.
or how easy is it to replace a fulcrum freehub body?
given the level of wear i am thinking new wheelset time
something for a 17stone rider, doing London to Paris later this year

Corima Rims. Any good?

Can't comment on the Fulcrum body question, but on pre-builts I guess the tester recommendation would be R501-C30 (as they are slightly more over-built than the R501.
...and I'm guessing from your description price is a factor.
If it were me though, I would go for 36h tiagra hubs with double butted spokes to a sensible widish rim. A319 for cheap and heavy or Archtypes* for a bit less weight and prettier**.
*assuming they come in 36h
**I think they're ugly but everyone else likes themEDIT: these look like quite a good buy given the cost and quality of the rims. Not sure on the rear spacing of the non-disc XT hubs though.

can the r501 c30 take a larger chap?
-
• #5412
Well according to ed;
We sell a lots of R501 to fat and lazy cunts, so you'll be fine.
But seriously, if you search this thread lots of people recommend the R501 and say they are bomb proof. So the extra spokes on the C30 should do the job. Plus I'm pretty sure they're j-bend so should be easy to replace.
At that weight I'd still rather have some over built hand builts just as they're easier to repair yourself and going 36h should mean they'll keep running even with a couple of bust spokes. But then I like building wheels IRL and planning wheelbuilds. The R501 would be cheaper and look cooler.

Also I asked in the wheelbuilding thread and one person slated them, but has anyone built and used a wheelset with KinLin ADHN?

The C30 doesn't have extra spokes, it just has a deeper rim. That should make it stronger and stiffer.

The current tstr_approved cheap wheelset is the DT R24, but I'd be hard pressed to argue against A319/Tiagra as a more maintainable option, although 32 spokes should be sufficient unless there's enough luggage involved to make you rethink the choice of hubs and rims too.

Any 11 speed wheelset usually come with space for 10 speed nowadays.
Easy to replace Fulcrum freehubs body, but cost mean might as well just get the cheap Shimano wheelset instead.

Okay, any thoughts on this?
Pacenti sl23 with bikehubstore sl79 front hub and sl210 rear, dt double butted spokes
Vs
Fulcrum racing 7 lgI could get both roughly the same although the pacenti build will cost a bit more.

My Pacenti's are absolutely 10/10 to ride, not a single bad word to say about them. I also swear they've given me 3 kmph for free somehow.
¯_(ツ)_/¯

@Cycliste reckons the Fulcrum Racing Zeros on her Enigma are too worn on the braking surfaces to be usable for much longer so is looking to replace them. Since they're Fulcrums, just replacing the rims isn't an option, and she's thinking of getting some Dura Ace C24s like she's got on her BMC.
So I've been looking at handbuilt alternatives. The budget would be about 600 quid, and there's no build costs as I'll do it myself. My idea at the moment is HED Belgium Plus rims, Tune Mag170/Mig70 hubs and CX-Ray spokes, 20h front and 24h rear. @Cycliste is tiny and weighs next to nothing. That combination is a bit over budget, but nice and light at under 1400g. Any suggestions for alternative builds?

• #5423
Could do, but the bearings on those hubs (they're the same as the Bikehubstore Superlight 79) are tiny. @Cycliste's got some with the same sized bearing on some other wheels I built her, and they're still going strong, but these are going to rack up high mileages every year and think the Tune's larger bearings will prove more durable. Definitely worth suggesting as an option though. Cheers.

Why not just RS81? (if she likes DA C24?)

Racing 5 LG with 23c GP4000s are £180 on Merlin. I trashed an old hub on Monday evening, ordered these Tuesday and arrived Wednesday, tyres on. Can't fault that service.
The 23s on these, are about the same width as 25c 4 Seasons on the 13mm internal of my old wheels.
Only thing I doubt is the number of spokes- 18/20.
Yeah, both valid, my problem is that I don't know whether the hub is damaged. The chain went over the bits that the spokes lace into. Bringing it to the mechanic at work to see if they thing just banging another spoke in is safe.
