Afternoon all,
I am looking for some advice. I have been playing squash for a couple of years and have used various shoes - Prince, Salming, Asics. A couple of weeks ago i bought these -
, https://sweatband.com/asics-gelhunter-3-mens-indoor-court-shoes.htmlThese are a cheaper replacement for these -
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00LLXXSB8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The Gel Hunter are useless! Very little support, poor grip, laces seem to loosen, so i'm not happy.
Has anyone any suggestions for another replacement pair? I'm back using the Gel Fastball for the meantime but they are well worn.
Thanks

Even in club matches I just use a standard pair of running trainers. Saucony Guide 8.

I have a friend who used trainers but the sole disintegrated in a couple of weeks. How much are you playing? We play around 6 to 8 hours per week, work permitting.
The lack of side support would concern me, I need cushioning in my fore-foot as I have a damaged joint but the instability of a trainer sole would not be worth the risk. The Gel Hunters are very like trainers.
If anyone is interested, I would sell them - size 10.5. Pics will be supplied of anyone is interested.
Thanks.

Could anyone recommend a squash coach in north/east London?
I have experience but haven’t been on court for almost ten years.

I need to replace the grip on a couple of tennis and squash racquets.
Can I use tennis grip tape for all of them and just cut it down for the squash racquets?
Cheers.

Squash grip is thinner and stickier. It might work, but it might be a bit too bulky...

You can if it is your preference. Preference is the only thing that matters.

Is it worth restringing an old racquet? It's probably 30yo now. I have a cheaper one that's only 20yo that I should probably try for difference, but I keep forgetting.
This seems to put the cost after posting etc at £30 http://advancesquash.co.uk/racket-restringing.php
My reason for asking is that I play at a drop in, and while I acknowledge I'm very rusty and others are better, it seems like I'm having to hit a lot harder. This could be technique, but I don't feel like I used to have this problem. Although I'm now older and less fit.
Buying a new racquet when I have ones and aren't that great seems wastful.
Also does anyone have any recommendations for improving strength in my forearm over the week? This one is definitely age related as I never used to have this problem.

Honest answer - no. Technology has improved over the past thirty years. I used an old racquet when I began to play again but soon changed it. eBay will give you some guide to the value of your old racquet. Restringing will not increase the value.
BUT - if you like the racquet and it works - restringing is an option. I would go for a robust Ashaway string. Technifibre strings are really good but I have found they break quite easily when I have used them - maybe 2 weeks of use.
Re. Forearm strength - I would suggest more practice and get your timing right as opposed to specific exercise. Have a look at the pros - very few have big forearms. It’s all in the timing.Edit - it took me quite a while to get a racquet which worked for me. Technifibre Heritage is what I have ended up with along with a few much more expensive Technifibre racquets. It’s not the most expensive but it’s not cheap. I bought an X Speed which was brilliant but only in the sweet spot. I’m not accurate enough to use it properly and reverted to the Heritage. I have bought around 10 Heritage and swear by them as a good racquet for my standard. If I improve I will bring out the X Speed again.

Cheers. That's really helpful, especially the point about sweet spots.

The X Speed is El Shorbagys (sp?) racquet and he has the skill to use it. I’m not close (LOL) to his standard so it caused me issues. When the ball hit the sweet spot it went like a bullet but the other 99% of times, it was ineffective. If you get a chance to test a racquet - the Heritage is worth a look.
I did try Prince, Head and Dunlop racquets as I played with them in the past but Technifibre worked best for me and are robust enough too. Prince racquets seemed less robust. -

Based on my skill level and budget, the Wilson Hyper Hammer 120 seems to be coming up as a good choice.

Reviews look ok, the heavy head would not suit me. If you have an opportunity, it would be best to test one. I know that is not the easiest thing to do - maybe you know someone who would let you try theirs? Don’t break it if you do!!!

My old racquets. Might be worth a look on eBay for a racquet to test.
