Yep Fender make some incredible amps, loved the old twin I had (the neighbours didn't).
There's a lot of Gibson based hate out there, mainly the US. From what I can see they're complaining about the new features (which to be fair aren't for everyone) and the price 'hike'. Not sure about that in the UK though really, as I still haven't seen an earlier sg special for less than I got mine for (and they have gig bags, not hardcases like the 2015s).There seems to be more vitriol for the tuners, hologram and signature than anything else. All things which are easily changed or don't really matter.
If you like the wide neck and are aware of the zero nut issues then there will be even more bargains to be had come winter. You can pick up LPJs for sub £500 now…

Isn't it illegal to play an SG through anything other than a Marshall?

Can't afford to try 50 vintage Marshalls to find one I might like (which I then wouldn't be able to afford anyway).
I met Jim Marshall also. Deaf as a post (him, not me)
The country blues picker in me can't stop loving those fender cleans, even with an SG and bumbuckers rolled back

Hi Tom,
You can check these 2. I have the V22 (not the infinium one) and I am completely satisfied.

^^what is the deal with the zero fret on these? I thought that idea went out in the 60s?*
*hypocrite alert: I'm a huge fan of lots of ideas that went out in the 60s like hand-wired valve amps and three saddle tele bridges, but I associate zero frets with slightly shonky british electrics of dubious playability.

I mean, normal bone nuts have worked perfectly well on acoustic guitars (and other string instruments for centuries before that) since the turn of the century and on most modern guitars. So why reintroduce an idea that was flirted with in the 60s and then rightly abandoned because it didn't work very well?

To reduce manufacturing and set-up costs maybe?

Good call. I'm looking at one on Ebay which didn't sell for £300!

Any suggestions for another place online to look for used amps? I'm too out of touch to know further than Ebay and Gumtree.
Or any London shops I should look into?

Mebbe over the top but a friend is selling a '57-ish Gibson GA-5 (LP Junior) amp... incredible little thing... basically a tweed Champ... it's in Vintage Guitar Boutique for £695 but he'd likely remove it and take a chunk less.

I think that's probably still going to be more than I'd want to spend. The £300 is more than I'd want to spend ideally but it would be worth it for what I'd get. And now I've got that idea in my head buying some kind of Chinese-made modern amp is less appealing as well.
A marriage made in heaven...
