• any suggestions for a 10spd shimano compatible wheelset?

a friend bought a tiagra 105 shimano equipped bianchi, but it has come with fulcrum wheels and a campag cassette, which are quite worn.

or how easy is it to replace a fulcrum freehub body?

given the level of wear i am thinking new wheelset time

something for a 17stone rider, doing London to Paris later this year

  • Can't comment on the Fulcrum body question, but on pre-builts I guess the tester recommendation would be R501-C30 (as they are slightly more over-built than the R501.

...and I'm guessing from your description price is a factor.

If it were me though, I would go for 36h tiagra hubs with double butted spokes to a sensible widish rim. A319 for cheap and heavy or Archtypes* for a bit less weight and prettier**.

    *assuming they come in 36h
**I think they're ugly but everyone else likes them

EDIT: these look like quite a good buy given the cost and quality of the rims. Not sure on the rear spacing of the non-disc XT hubs though.

The current tstr_approved cheap wheelset is the DT R24, but I'd be hard pressed to argue against A319/Tiagra as a more maintainable option, although 32 spokes should be sufficient unless there's enough luggage involved to make you rethink the choice of hubs and rims too.
