• I am only 57 (well 58 in a month) and would hope I could do a 100 mile a day ride over reasonable terrain for quite a distance provided I slept in decent beds. Even slowly, that is 10 hours a day on the bike and 14 hours to recover. It was the lack of sleep and absence of recovery that struck me about your adventure. Not sure I could manage that.

Riding alone, and alone 24 hours a day, didn't the lack of company get to you?

  • Audax is a good introduction to riding with minimal social interaction as you can choose to make that a lonely activity. I personally love all that time alone to think, I've done several 600km rides with less than an hour riding with anyone else, but you do get the benefit of talking to people at various controls. Riding alone is easier (especially as I ride most things on fixed) as you don't have to worry about holding back, or being held back by, a riding partner.
