Dead rider was only 55. He was riding for Action for A-T, a charity I raised money for a couple of years ago.

Did it in 5:31 which I thought was quite good until I saw all your times! First century complete. Appreciated the crisps in the finishers pack.
Some very unpleasant looking crashes witnessed - one poor lady bleeding from the face a lot by Waterloo Bridge whose ride looked over after only 8 miles or so.
So many bottles and pumps on the ground.
Didn't do as much group riding as I would have liked - groups either going too slow or (mostly) too fast.

I started at 6:30 on the dot and had quite a pleasant experience throughout for my first ever century cycle!
Strava recorded: 5h40m (0.4 miles discrepancy haha)
Chip time: 6 hours 0 minutes 14 secondsAlways sad news when you hear something like that.

The description of the route I saw online all said "160.2km" which is 700m short of 100 miles, or ~0.4 miles.

Did you see the crash? The rider is appealing for witnesses (see post above).

Afraid not - just a lady sitting by the side of the road with medical people with her.

There was also a chap on the ground by the finish line who appeared to be unconscious when I crossed the line at about 13:20, would love to know he is ok as it didn't look good.

Did anyone spot the young girl dressed up like Didi the Devil think it was in Wimbledon or Leatherhead, thought it was quiet in some sections but where there was crowds they were great!

Yes! I shouted his name in verbal salute and quite a lot of folks in my mini-belleton looked a bit confused.

That picture portal is a rip off in a broad daylight. Sad :(

Yes I saw the young girl dressed as The Devil, I'd gone past before it sunk in and I could think of anything to say!
Slightly more incongruous to the event ( but not to 6ish on a Sunday morning ) were the variously dressed for the night before lady clubbers giving words of encouragement! -

Was just looking over the ride on Strava and this made me chuckle.
It's a twenty mile section from Richmond to just after Ripley (filtered by those I'm following), where four of us were pulling a big group along. Fun, but a massive waste of energy.

Yawn.
What was the relevance of the video? Certainly didn't support the article as it seemed to show some 'serious' guys doing the ride quickly but not causing any problems for anyone else.
-
• #1648
Absolute non-article. "Group of 25,000 people includes a few dickheads" is not news.

Don't suppose this one on Box Hill was it? Mate was telling me how he embarrassed himself by doing a very similar thing.
Managed 5hr 12min this year. Which is 3 kph faster than last year on average, so pretty chuffed. Would love to get sub 5 next year.
RIP Rider.
Interesting - thanks.
My major aim was not to ruin myself, 0-2:30 (54 miles) was an average of 188 watts (218 NP), 2:30-4:36 was an average of 202 (232 NP), whole thing was 195/NP 225.
