Heading North over Albert bridge the river sometimes smells of a French fishing port, thereby transporting me to childhood holidays in a Proustian fashion.

Another one is the awful, oveepowring, malty stench emanating from the Shredded Wheat Factory that greats train arrivees to Welwyn Garden City.

Ah yes. But the stench moved north to a new factory a few years back. I grew up there and had friends that worked in the WGC factory. They also used to make scampi flavoured fries there. Imagine the pong in that room.

Southall always sets my sense of smell tingling. The spicy cooking smells from homes as you approach, the ghee bubbling outside shops as sweets pakora and samosas get made. People literally sweating out the aroma of the spices they have recently eaten. It's awesome.
In Bermondsey there is one street that always smells of smoked sausage, I assume there is a butcher of similar nearby, it is possibly a fake smoke aroma. Nearby to that street there is also the Monmouth Roastery with its heady intoxication of coffee.

the smell of poppers/poppers cloud as I cycled past Fire nightclub in Vauxhall always brought a ear to the eye.
Rode through some dogshit yesterday and upon checking to see if it was maybe mud and being repulsed by that all too familiar stench, I was transported back to my youth and my mum screaming "Which one of you has trodden dog muck into the house?" Bizarre.

You used to get a strong whiff in SE London from Pura Foods in Canning Town now known as London City Island ?
Usually when there was a north east breeze.
Pura Foods. In the 1960s-70s Pura was part of Acatos and Hutcheson who made edible oils and fats. On this site they were Pure Lard Ltd with a large refining and deodorising plant. But became Pura Foods in 1988 and new plant was installed at Leamouth including for hydrogenation of fats and a plant for making PVC bottles.
Coffee,bacon,peoples tea-time meals,fresh air,bin lorry,the river ?
