• I'm still on the lookout for a Lytaloy Headset (for my Hobbs for Eroica) if anyone has one lying around. Good money paid but just can't find one anywhere. Any one got the fast track to anyone that has one or got one they no longer need?
    Cheers
    Pete

  • hilary stone? or retro bike?

  • Hilary has none, I've put up a wanted ad on retro bike this very morning and have put up a post on the HOB Facebook page. Also have my eBay alerts set up. Hopefully something will turn up but they do seem to be rather rare.

  • I'm looking for a single speed freewheel and fixed for my 39 Holdsworth. Anyone?

  • Right, Lytaloy headset acquired. Anyone got a Spearpoint front mudguard for me? ?

  • Took the 20's/30's EF Russ to work today, and stopped off at garden on the way back. Been fitted with a new chain set-a nickel plated Williams from the 30's, as the BSA 5pin crank broke, and is at my Parents pop north after being welded. The Williams actual rides really smooth and lovely, and as it is a small ring (44 tooth I think,) is nice and easy on the legs, which helps with the wheel barrow like turning circle of the Russ.

  • Nice...what tyre size is that? and which tyres?

  • They're 26 1 1/4". Not sure what the rear is but the front is a Schwalbe.

They came with the wheels mind, so I never had to source them. However, Kenda do some ok ones you can get on ebay sometimes-I have used these in the past and they're ok, just a bit heavy.

I'm sure you know this but just make sure you get the correct vintage size 26 1 1/4 tyres, (32-597mm) or they won't fit!

  • Oh got a pair already. A simple pair or tyres. I'm sure they'll puncture in a split second :(

    Worst size to source!

  • the kenda? They were fine for me so far, pretty thick rubber I think. Even through some pretty bad weather in winter/early spring

  • but yeah, 26 1 1/4 is a bad size to find

  • dunno, they look cheap :)

Will see when I start riding it.

  • But they can be easily found on eBay looking for 32-597 at least. Bit of a bitch to mount as well, at least on my Dunlop rims.

  • Anidel, did you message me about my sales listing fir a hiduminium stem and constrictor conloy rims/wheel can only see have a post as I accidentally deleted some and hadn't noticed your reply.

Were you interested in something. All still available at moment. Was just going to put on ebay but if you want something you have first dibs.

  • Before i saw the stem I was interested. I was hoping for a headclip one.

  • Oh, that's ok then. Worried I'd just screwed up there. If I see a head clip stem anywhere I'll give you a heads up

  • @jeff80 Obviously, behind anidel in any dibs - but - I'm on the hunt for a 27" rim for 40 spokes... or better a pair 40/32 ... Conloys would be very welcome ...

    Thanks
    Ben

  • no you didn't :)

    Thanks!

  • No dibs for me...got my Dunlop already.

  • Just had fixed up / inventively repaired a Jack Taylor curved ST track/TT frame. It's lugless with a laminate plate thing behind the seat colloar holding a tasty narrow shot stay cluster. Got it from Nhattattack! who's had it for 'like' ages.

Think the forks aint original but I'd be happy if wrong on that.

Will post a pic of the repair, done by Petor George. There was a really bad crack near the BB cluster on the ST. The DT and ST sort of converged with a double mitre, so Petor has sleeved both the ST and DT bilaminted into the BB shell.

All seemed worth it just cos it's better than binning it, and the repairs will to a degree be hidden behind chainset.

  • @anidel Cheers!

  • This thread is wonderful. Must get my 1948 rra built up. Got lots of parts to find.

  • That's part of the fun!

  • It is. I do wonder if a set of North Road bars upside down would be appropriate. I have decided to keep the build as british as possible but as i love Royce components I think I will get there cranks, bb and hubs. Wooden rims for the wheels an old brooks saddle and the stem perhaps go. The brakes are the bit I am stuck unless I drink some man up and dont fit any.
