• Right, here's an odd one. I'm getting the occasional and very loud 'BANG' noise coming from somewhere, usually after freewheeling. It sounds very similar to a freehub body sticking/breaking, or the sound of a gear change under high load.

However it's a Reynolds one so the springs are in the hub body rather than the freehub shell. I've taken the whole thing apart, twice, regreased everything including the sealed bearings and still no joy. Springs are fine.

I've changed the crankset and chain to eliminate those, still there. I'm using a Praxis BB and thought it might be the bearings in that, but they're still butter smooth.

The chain doesn't jump when it bangs, so that definitely eliminates the freehub. So, I'm stumped. Ideas?

  • It does sound like the freehub body banging. I get it very occasionally (one a month maybe) it's the pawls I think - nothing to worry about. If it's coming from the BB: something to worry about.

  • I've taken the freehub off, adjusted each leaf spring (which are in the hub body) and put it back together, hasn't helped. Starting to think it might be the bearings in the hub now, so have bought new ones to put in and see if that helps
