What BB?

Posted on
  • I am building up a bike with a Campagnolo Daytona chain set and have a question regarding bottom brackets.

I was running the frame as a fixed gear before and have removed a fairly new sealed Shimano UN-55 bb. I assume this will not be compatible with the Campag components? I do have a 3 part Campag bb that was in the frame when i got it but i think it is a bit rough. Can anyone suggest a sealed bb that would work well with the Daytona chain set?

  • which bb

  • Also I think it's 102mm ISO, so theres a chorus bb that you can still get new.

  • Okay so the 3 part bb i would like to use has an axle length of 111mm. i assume this is pretty standard?

Anyone hava a tool i can borrow to assist in fitting the cups? (mainly the cup in the middle)

  • 111mm was standard for all double cranks, prior to 1995.

In 1995 Record and Chorus went 102mm, but the rest remained 111mm: so this will fit.

I have the tools, but will have to be exchanged via post.

  • thanks for the info....what tool do i need to fit the cup with the holes in? i have a spanner for the other cup.

  • Buy another UN-55 of the correct length...

  • what tool do i need to fit the cup with the holes in?

A pin spanner: mine is by Icetoolz, but it's a generic tool, with plenty of alternatives.

  • I didn't think Campag and Shimano were interchangeable. ? ISO...Etc

  • The old campagnolo be like the one you have 3 part have a different taper to the iso taper used after 1995 therefore it will not fit well. What is needed is a centaur 11 1 mm iso taper bb's or the tifosi bb 11 1 mm iso taper.

Day to a became centaur after a couple of years and uses a 11 1 mm iso taper bb.
