  • That's another possible explanation. Would have cost a packet to get that done I imagine

  • In the nineties a standard respray costed 3500 Bef (that's 85 euro); special paints were about the double.

  • He asks 500 according to 2dehands. ;-)

  • Got an offer of 600 euro now. I have no experience with shipping a bike so that's something I'll rather not do.

  • my ehh... Yeah...

Got the frame (Alu Sprint) + fork + seatpost for free. Removed all the parts from my Decathlon roadbike and put it on the merckx. It works but it doesn't look merckx worthy.

Previous owner took the setup he had all around the world. Was a manager for several production sites worldwide. Frame has been on every continent except Antarctica.

  • I really would appreciate any additional information concerning a Merckx I bought a few weeks ago. Former owner thought this frame was re-painted. It looks like a professional road model with portacatena dropouts, an early model seat cluster, 'Eddy Merckx' stamped on the BB shell and on the flat fork crowns, cable guides on top of BB, a very early serial number ...
... but it is the only 'old' Columbus Merckx I've ever seen without markings on the seat stays.
Would like to hear your thoughts.

  • Saw it on 2dehands. Nice bike (but lo pro's aren't exactly my thing).

  • Potential owner here... just posted a thread in the classifieds: discussion forum re: a Merckx I'd like to snap up. https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/273836/newest/

    Suggestions/advice welcome!

  • Updated a bit my merckx alu

  • Nice colour!

  • Mx leader frame on Gumtree (it's not mine)

  • Two merckx lo pro on Ebay
171949913767—looks like a dent on top tube
    171950290399—looks in lovely condition

  • I want your life!

  • Picking up a mid-eighties Professional in original setup (Super Record) tomorrow. :-)

  • You just can't help yourself can you ;-) Sounds awesome, PM me some pictures if you have any, I'd love to have a sneak preview. I've been busy riding and fiddling about with some new acquisitions that I'd almost neglected my Professional but your post has just re-kindled my interest.

  • Indeed, I'm useless when it comes to that. I'm negotiating another one that's even more awesome... Only problem: seller only wants to make a decision after the weekend and that makes me nervous. ;-)

  • Picked up the Professional today. Chances are high I'll have it resprayed as it's one of the poorest colour schemes Merckx ever produced. On the other hand: paint is in good condition and I'm always having difficulties giving bikes a new paint.

Shifters aren't Campa but those aren't very hard to find so that's not an issue. Most of the parts are SR (except for the headset that's a Hatta Swan)

    Better photos will follow.

  • Love this, personally I'd go with a silver post but the black still works.

  • dismantled the bike and cleaned up the frame:

  • I have provisionally bought this on a whim, it seemed cheap. Any obvious things I should look for, I don't know much about them? I know the fork isn't original, but a Tifosi.

  • It looks like a real Merckx MX Leader but I'm pretty sure it's a resprayed one.
