I'm taking my car to be serviced by a friend-of-a-friend on the weekend. I already told him the make and model, but he says he needs to know the VIN so he can order the right oil filter. Is that normal?
Edit - Yes. Apparently the VIN encodes all sorts of information about the vehicle, its make, model and year of production, etc.
