  • yes, that a nice piece as well, I saw the listing, pretty much ebay.com prices I thought tbh given the source

  • That is lush! Where did you get it?

  • What's the website address? Cheers

  • Sorry, missed this one. It was on a Belgian site but it's sold already.

I picked up an aero shaped Merckx today. Will post pictures after I cleaned it but this I already want to show:. :-)

It doesn't have the complete groupset on it (in fact, there's crucial parts missing). It came with 50th Anniversary crankset, brakes and fronnt derailleur.

  • looks nice, i had one a while back with the dt shifters i aero pos. on dt, and the old square font decal, was pearl white

  • So i finaly finished my mx-leader, mostly in ultegra 6500 (including hubs). Despite the scratchs and cheaps parts, i'm very glad to ride with it.

  • Does it have the chromed lugs? Nice bike anyway!

  • Yes Sir ! :)

  • Put a Campy Record Titanium on it! ;-)

  • Haha Nope ! It will be an another merckx in campa, that's mainstream. I prefer shimano btw :p

  • Finally got round to finishing off the Professional with some gears. Makes for an easier uphill ride than the previous single speed setup :-)

  • Nice bike! Is the groupset an early Chorus or Croce d' Aune?

  • Hey WimVDD, how you doing?

Bit of a mismatch really of Campag.
Record Syncro shifters (8 speed insert sadly doesn't play ball with the rear mech but fine in friction mode of course)
    Athena rear mech
    Record hubs
Chorus crankset and I think front mech too.

still looks fairly period 'ish' and if I see anything pop up for sale that might suit it a bit better I'll no doubt do a few swap overs. Nothing's ever totally finished eh!

  • Hey Cos, I'm fine thanks.

Your bike probably needs a Nuovo Record/SuperRecord (or a 50 th Anniversary...) if you want it to be period correct. But it looks good like this. My Corsa Extra ('90) has an 8 speed Chorus with Ergopowers where it came then with Croce d'Aune with Syncro shifters. So the same here: if I ever find a Croce d'Aune for a reasonable price, I'll probably make it period correct. Now I just enjoy riding it. ;-)

  • I'm certain the frame's an '87 from the numbers which I think just squeezes it in period for Chorus I think?

I saw your Corsa Extra on the previous page and it's just lovely. The Colnago Super in Blue you sourced for your friend BTW is a stunner. Was it expensive?

  • A rainy day in the Pyrenees resulted in a nice internet find: a first generation Eddy Merckx (built under guidance of Ugo De Rosa) from 1980. It's been resprayed by the Merckx company mid nineties but I want to bring it back to more original colours and decals so this will be a next project. Photos will follow once I'm back home. Frame has the rare seatstay with the engraved Merckx' signature (as the one on the picture)

  • ^nice, looking forward to more pictures.

On topic: how rare is this? MX-Leader in Team Domo colors.. Frame is from '96/'97 (code F), Team Domo was 2000/2001.. Original paint btw, has the sticker on the downtube. Full Campa Chorus 9 speed.

  • Now THAT is nice! Apart from the Campag, obviously! Lol
    My size too, git! ;)
Unusual to have a frame in team colours before the team started. They were Mapei before, IIRC.
Where did you find it? The ones I see are nearly always alloy

  • Indeed.. Have only seen one other steel frame in this colorway before (a Strada O.S. been sold on here). So I guess they just painted some steel frames they had still laying around at the time? I have no clue..

Found it here in Antwerp. Went riding my bike this afternoon with my girlfriend, stumbled upon some "vintage" market. They were packing in, bike was there, made a deal, bought it :-)

  • Lucky you! Is it around 58cm?

  • Maybe it's a respray but done by the Merckx company. The one I bought (the one from 1980) has original decals and paint but looks just like a nineties steel Merckx. I started racing in 1991 and it wasn't that strange amongst racers to have your frame resprayed in "new" colours after some years. Times were different, most people didn't need a complete new bike after a year. ;-)

  • Ok, how much do you want for it? Lol
