Wanted- small framed vintage racer

Posted on
  • I'm after a small framed vintage racer to convert into a fixie I'm only 5'7 so I was looking at a 50cm frame or smaller. I'm not after anything too special as I don't really want to spend a lot on it. Any suggestions welcome I'm in Yorkshire so would probably need it posted.

  • Is 50cm not a bit small for you?

  • I have something suitable, will have to dig it out.

  • I've got a giant tcr in a small what's a 46.5 so I assumed I'd need a similar frame size ?

  • If you can find it that would be great dfp.

  • I have a complete bike. It's 52cm c to c. The spec is excellent, the only drawback being that it's in Telford, Shropshire, and would need to be collected. I am practically giving it away at £150.00.

Reynolds 531C frame (it was incorrectly labelled 531ST by Argos, Bristol, following its new paint job).
It was re-sprayed in 2013, at a total cost of £200. The colour is Gios blue. It's in very good (but not perfect) condition. There is absolutely no rust!

All unnecessary brazings, including the gear hanger, were removed prior to the re-spray, so it cannot be converted to gears.

I was actually a little disappointed with the quality of Argos's work, particularly considering their reputation.
I originally took the frame to Bicycles by Design in Telford, who I believed did their own enamelling.
In fact, B by D sub-contract the work to Argos.

THE SPECIFICATION OF THE BIKE IS:

    WHEELS:
UNKNOWN BRAND VINTAGE SPRINT RIMS ON CAMPAGNOLO RECORD FRONT HUB (with quick release lever), AND MICHE PRIMATO REAR TRACK HUB. FITTED WITH 18 tooth FIXED COG. THE WHEELS WERE HAND BUILT JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO.
TYRES: VITTORIA RALLY TUBULARS (no wear)
    BOTTOM BRACKET: CAMPAGNOLO CHORUS (new)
CHAINSET: CAMPAGNOLO CHORUS CRANKS (172.5 mm), with STRONGLIGHT 48 tooth chainwheel).
    PEDALS: NONE
    HANDLEBARS: CINELLI GIRO D'ITALIA
    HANDLEBAR STEM: CINELLI 101 - 100mm
BRAKE LEVER: TEKTRO RL520 AERO (new)
    HEADSET: CAMPAGNOLO RECORD (NEW)
FRONT BRAKE CALIPER: SHIMANO ULTEGRA, GREY (NEW)
SEATPOST: CAMPAGNOLO SUPER RECORD - 26.6mm
    SADDLE: SELLE ITALIA

Note: The headset alone cost £50 just a few months ago. I reckon the true resale value of the bike is probably around £400. I just need to move it to make room for a new purchase.

  • That's a nice bike Barry1942 just what I had in mind but were talking a 200mile round trip to collect :-( which is a tad too far I'm afraid.

  • Would you consider posting it Barry ?

  • Unfortunately, I don’t have a suitable bike box, but if you could collect I will throw in a couple of pairs of extra wheels (one pair of sprints and tubs, and one pair of clinchers without tyres). They must be worth an extra £200. Plus: a 46 tooth TA chainring worth about £40. Tempted?

  • Ha ha nice try I am tempted but I don't fancy that long drive I'm afraid.

  • Okay Juds. Sorry I couldn't tempt you.

  • Thanks for offering it to me. It does look a fine bike it's just a shame we are long way apart.
