  • What frame size is that, I'm tempted by the frame set, but unsure it will be big enough - I'm 6'4".
    R

  • it is L

im 181 with 86 inseam and quite average limbs

  • I had an XL and am 6'3"- plenty of seat tube exposed and a 120mm stem but once you get off road and dirty it felt really chuckable- personally I did not find it comfortable enough on road for much distance but had my commute covered by another bike.

  • thanks harv, might not be quite right then. 2/3 use for road commuting. Oh well really fancied one if these bikes.

  • I fancy doing a bit of SSCX with my pomp v4 - got some weinmann dp18s at the moment for commuting duty. Can I stick some 31mm knobblies on them or should I be looking at some new rims as well?

    Recommendations v. welcome.

  • DP18s are very narrow. You could, but it won't be ideal. Probably fine for summer with higher pressures but you'd have no chance in mud.

  • They're fine. Three years ago no one were riding wide rims and open pro was a favorite rim for cyclocross.

  • Thanks, Pm'd. Only looking for the frame though so depends what you want to do.

  • Pomp v4 frameset now £149.99 in the sale

  • Anyone tried going 650b on the Pompetamine? Thinking it would be nice to gain some space for mudguards and wider tyres...

  • Still appears to be £199.99 when I looked just now..?

  • you have to click on the sale link and then subscribe to the newsletter before it gives you the sale price

  • Yep I have subscribed but prices remain unchanged..

  • Still says £199.99 for me too after logging in etc etc. Now I think I dreamt it but I'm sure yesterday they were on for £129.99 and am fairly sure I wasn't logged then either! Am getting more convinced by the raw finish despite still wanting the wishbones and nearly went for one at that price!

  • I looked at it through planet x, and the sale price came up...

  • 650b will put the bb 19mm closer to the ground if using the same width tyres.the bb is quite high anyway. With 700c you can get up to about 35s. You may be able to get a fatter tyre with the smaller rims into the frame. Definitely worth a shot.

  • Yeah that was where I saw the price, on Planet X. The On-One site says it's on sale yet still says £199.99. Edit - seems they've messed up the pricing between the two sites.

@dna Raw finish is alright, I didn't fancy the blue but I am still not sure how it'll look in a few months time

  • I can only get the sale price to display on my desktop if that helps anyone

  • I can only get the sale price to display on my desktop

Planet-X cunningly assuming that anybody browsing from their mobile can afford to pay full price :-)

  • Yeah, thats what I had in mind. Running knobby 35s now and reckon i'd have to go down a few mm to be able to be able to fit proper mudguards. Question is how much I would gain by going 650b, if its only a few mm its probably not worth it. If I could fit something like 38 with guards and 42 without i'd probably have a go...

  • Question is how much I would gain by going 650b

You're moving the fattest part of the tyre about 19mm closer to the dropouts. Given straight stays, that would be about (19/350)×(135-40)=5mm extra width between the chainstays, but the Pompetamine stays are actually dimpled to clear 700C tyres. Looking at mine, I'd say there might even be less tyre room if the rim shrunk in radius by 19mm.

  • @negaatio are those 35c paselas?

looks rad, thinking of going with chunky tyres on mine as well
