Or it might be a sunken Japanese bath. Made of concrete. Unfortunately the builder made it in the wrong place (if you believe our architect) so the steps need to come in and it needs to be made a bit smaller. He has agreed to do this so could be worse.
It needs to be smaller anyway as it's currently got a 550L capacity, and would take 40 minutes to fill even with the boiler for a five bedroom house we are putting in our one bed flat!
