  • I really enjoyed doing the rapha cross rides last year, so them and maybe some racing too. No intention to ever commute on it really.

  • seatpost? is it 31.6? I was thinking id get one of those flexy carbon ones from Canyon. I will also be putting salsa cowbells on what ever I get and ditching those FSA cranks.

  • @fahrgestell & @Chalfie The Raleigh really speaks to me, I'll have to look around, but it looks hard to find one in london. If I can use my voucher else where I'll speak to Raleigh direct. The shop doesn't open till 2

  • Er. They were in Fitzrovia.

  • oh rly, will ring and find out. Ta.

  • no, they have a unique “D” shaped composite seatpost, really flexible/comfortable.

  • Yeah seatpost in proprietary.

I'm going to replace the wheels on the Giant pretty soon I think

  • Whats the Tyre clearance like on the TCX I fancy trying 40c

  • Fitzrovia Cycles may have the raleigh on discount

  • Turns out I can't buy outside the scheme.

  • 47c in the back and 50c in the front, should be the max.

  • yikes! how much seat post do you have left inside the frame?

t think I might test ride a TCX in St Pauls tomoz

  • that's not my bike!

i personally have a bit left, but never measured it.

  • Just tested a CAADX

    TERRIBLE

  • Why exactly?

In my experience, most cross bikes feel sluggish on the road but when you take them off road suddenly they feel right.

  • I tested a CAADX last week and rather liked it (apart from the terrible brakes), I was surprised to find the 58cm fit, I thought I would have needed the larger size. Does anyone know how the CAADX sizing compares to the croix de fer - i.e. would I need the 58cm genesis rather than the 60cm? It's seemingly impossible to test ride a cdf at bristol evans.

  • I've tried a few bikes recently ranging from tourers to full cx bikes. The CAADX just seemed wooly on turn in and the brakes were awful

  • ha, amazing, that's mine!! I'm now unfortunately back as of last week, but that second hand 2012 caadx has just done 6500 rough miles whilst fully overloaded, and it's still running smooth. I love that thing.

    This

  • You should write reviews for road.cc

  • Not enough vertical compliance and lateral stiffness

  • I've decided that I really should be buying an 'adventure road bike' which is basically a CX frame with slick 32s and compact chainset. ABRs are not to be confused with endurance bikes (which are for old people and cant go off-road)

The only problem with ABRs is that they are FUGLY for example the GT Grade

  • This is the cyclocross thread?

  • I consider ABRs to be a sub-category of CX as they share the same frames and wheels. For example the BMC GF02 and the CXA01 are exactly the same bike except for hydraulic brakes.

  • If you want fugly buy a Slate.
