Hey Sam. Where were you last night? ;0)
-
• #3228
Dad duties

• #3229
Oh no....not that wretched adverse-camber bitch of a course. I don't think I have ever ridden so slow or fallen off so slowly.
Was triffic fun though.

It'll be very different next week, unless it pisses down 24/7 between now and next Thursday.
-
• #3232
Sadly not. I've not ridden since Sunday but will go for a short spin tomorrow to see how it is. But given the ongoing pain I can't see me racing cross anytime before September.

That's a bit shit.
Do you have the insurance crap to deal with as well?
-
• #3234
Yes. Have BCs lawyers on the case but am having to get all the evidence and paper work together. Plus order new parts for the bike that I hope to get refunded for eventually.

When someone left-hooked me on Crystal Palace Park Road, I had Chris ("Beckenham Bike Man") in my road examine my frame and declare it a write-off. Worked OK for insurance.

Look on the bright side, you can get all the Campag replaced with something decent.

Word is in that the Rapha Supercross will be repeating their double header this year in Halifax. It was a lot of fun last time as a spectator so I would imagine more of the same. Not sure where the 3rd round will be though.
Also, Ripley Castle New Years Day Cross is in the schedule which is worth the visit if you can make it.
On the more lowly news front, I've finally switched out the old Tektros for some TRP CX9s on the Spesh. I'm a fat git so they may not stop me any better but they certainly look a lot nicer. Currently on 42x20 but hoping to move up to 42x18 by the time the season starts. I've been cheating and doing some fell running to prep me for the tough slopes.

Get well soon @andyp!
Next week's race looks to be the same course as the winter series (did not race summer series last year, so may be the same as that too), which, if it's dry, really will be a grass criterium. Though if the weather is anything like today it probably won't be far off winter series conditions.

Is it too early to talk about muddy hell?
-
• #3242
It's not happening as far as I know.
-
• #3243
Which is a shame because the appetite for CX is clearly growing as is the number of standalone type events like this. Hopefully someone else will try their hand at trying to stage something similar in the near future.
-
• #3244
What's involved? I wouldn't know where to start!
-
• #3245
Getting sponsors onboard. Still too niche for big enough sponsorship to cover all the costs.
-
• #3246
Find a venue, design a course, design an event around the course, determine the cost of hosting, secure sufficient sponsorship that will allow for an attractive entrance fee for a likely number of riders, get insurance, wrangle contractors, market the event, run the event, wrangle entrants, wrangle spectators, exploit all of your friends/associates/acquaintances/innocent bystanders, capitalise on every ounce of positive feedback while hounding every negative nancy out of town, be revered as a god, realise your life is in tatters

As with everything when you start looking for wheels, it soon becomes "ooh, but that's not much more expensive".
-
• #3248
They wouldn't be my first choice. If I wanted something deep - for muuuuuuuddddddd - I'd go cheapo chinease crabon first.

Does anyone want a lift to Addington Park and back tomorrow- I have 6 seats available and plenty of space for bikes- probably leaving east London (E2) around 5pm
-
• #3250
Well. I started just looking at novatec hubs. Then superstar.then they seemed not that much more expensove....
HA!
See.
Yes.
I associated it with Addington as it's close.
IGNORE EVERYTHING I SAID.
(unless you're all planning on riding Frylands)
