Mine has always said that, but it seems to happily upload rides etc. I've never tried sending a route via bluetooth if that is what you're trying to do though.

Garmin new eTrex Touch look awesome.
Unfortunately, despite having AA batteries, it's a LOTS shorter than the original eTrex.
Bah.

Quick question, I was considering getting a garmin edge 25. Anybody used it? I want to be able to plan a route on my phone, load it to the garmin and let it guid me.
Is that process possible and is it at least as user friendly as doing it with google maps on your phone (which drains your battery). Is that how Transcon people do their navigation? -

plan a route on my phone
which app can do plan&export?
-
• #2509
I have no idea, that's kind of what I'm asking, I'm guessing you need a garmin app.
You can now plan a route on google from your desktop and push it to your phone. It would be great if you could plan on your phone and push it to your garmin. Is that possible? -

If your phone can run a web-browser then you can do this in RWGPS.
-

On android + chrome or Opera it is not possible to move the map around to make the next route point.

Nice find, so that's £3 for 7 days subscription as an in-app purchase (is the web version free to download?),
Or you can use Garmin connect, but I don't think the app lets you plan routes so might have to also use the web version, again not ideal... (can anyone confirm?)
Or you can use http://www.elsewhere.org/journal/gmaptogpx/ to convert a google map data to GPX.
To be honest, seems like the cheapest/hassle free way is to use your phone for navigation with a hub dynamo charger to keep it going -

I may have just ordered a Fenix 3.
If I keep giving Garmin my money, they'll keep issuing bug fixes for their devices, so one day they stuff I've bought from them might actually work. Right? RIGHT?

right about that one
But when they do, the update introduce three new bugs

The edge 25 is such a nifty little product, it would be perfect if you could do the planning on your phone, upload and start route on the garmin, put phone back in the pocket, ride away (especially in the rain!).
I guess I need an apple watch really. -

Has anyone had success using a tablet to connect to the Garmin? I'm looking at buying a Hudl2, and hoping that I can use the micro-usb port it has to connect to my Garmin 705 to upload routes to it, and download rides to Strava etc.
I've read that perhaps the power output of the tablet would not be sufficient to allow connectivity with the Garmin. Has anyone tried something similar?
-
• #2517
If the tablet is android based and has the common feature "USB-host" it's very easy.

Have done this using an edge 800 and an Acer Iconia, also tried it with my galaxy S4.
Both had enough power to allow file management using ES file explorer.
My cubot gt72 could not power the garmin. -

Perfect, that's pretty much what I want to do.
Is there a specific usb cable you use (presumably a double ended mico one?) just had a quick google and there aren't many I can see

How do I prevent my 810 from rerouting me along completely nuts routes if I miss a turn or need to take a detour?
I usually plot in RideWithGPS, or sometimes Garmin Connect.
Is it just a case of adding more waypoints?
Can I just add more waypoints?
Does Garmin use waypoints?
Do I even know what waypoints are?
-
• #2521
Much easier just to turn off rerouting completely.

New Garmin 810 user here, have had three random turn-offs in the last week. Is this par for the course? (all times > 50% battery, twice just recording, once when routing, using OSM rather than official maps)

I believe you would want a female usb cable for your tablet. Then you can just plug you garmin cable into that. Have a look at Amazon and eBay, should be easy to pick one up for not much money
-
• #2524
You need to open settings > activity profiles > profile you use for rides > navigation > routing. Set recalculation to 'off'
-

Easiest just to get a USB OTG cable and plug a normal cable into that.
I should have explained better. I have a GXP file saved on my computer and want to import it into Garmin Connect so I can edit it and add it to my device.
