I would say don't get them too tight, the perforations in the leather will stretch over time and will become misshapen and susceptible to damage if you have them too tight. It is important to wash / care for them all the time, adding leather balm as often as you can to keep the leather supple. Sweat will damage the leather making it hard, add this to over stretching and you will get tears. I have owned three pairs, but now prefer the classic mitts.

I ordered medium - hand measurement was just a slight bit under large - but I was planning for breaking them in and getting some stretch in the leather.
