Monday or Tuesday next week will be the last day with Rudy. The slow progression of his illness has made his life quality terrible, and a slow growing tumour in his mouth has pushed the decision forward.
I'd like to think ill be ready for it, he's currently enjoying his last week where he was born, down on the farm, and I just wish I could be down there goofing around with the daft mutt.
What a good friend he's been. It's going to be shit.

Sorry to hear that, @eyebrows Rudy looks like a lovely fella.
Very sad day yesterday, as Dusty here suffered a sudden 'Aortic Thromboembolism' and despite being rushed straight to the vet, it was already too late to do anything :-(

Sorry for your losses guys, it doesn't matter that you have done exactly the right thing, it won't hurt any less. For what it's worth, you have my respect for treating him with the dignity and compassion he deserves. It happens to me on average every 5 years (I tend to have 3 generations of labradors but lost 2 last year) and never gets any easier, I know how you feel.
I really should get round to posting the latest little sod, Beamish.

In an effort to rescue James from a life spent mainly curled up in a Chimenea, and Higgs from a life spent in the garden, and with no small degree of regret, Tesla has gone to live with Tommmmmm.
The task, now, is to get James and Higgs back in the flat so that they can realise that Tesla is no longer there, and that they can make it their home again.
To this end I've set the cat flap to admit only, which meant that when James came in to empty his food bowl at 04:10 this morning he came racing onto the bed to miaow at me to let him out again. I eventually did so, as I thought he might wake up the neighbours, hopefully he'll come in a little earlier so that he can be made a fuss of, and feel more at home over the next few days.
Higgs has been hiding underneath the bath since I went and got her from the garden and plonked her down in the sitting room, this hiding place will vanish this weekend so hopefully she will be more adjusted to life in the flat by then.
She emptied her food bowl last night and then vomited expansively over the bathroom floor at 01:56 this morning, which I got up and sorted out.
Fingers crossed this will be worth it, and we'll end up with a happy James and Higgs at my flat, and a happy Tesla at Tommmmmmm's.

Such domestic bliss!
Good luck, I'm sure the change in territory dynamic will make a difference. (And good on @tommmmmmm for taking Tesla)

I'm happy to be of service and very pleased to have Tesla.
I'd have posted more happy pictures of Tesla in her new home, but I felt it may have been a bit insensitive knowing that she wasn't easy to give away. Here she is getting to know her new surroundings.

I'm very glad she's happy.
Higgs update: still under the bath.

Getting rid of the bath is still quite an extreme step though, no?

She can stay there for now, I have to hope that at some point she'll come out.

Here is Rita a 5 year old miniature Pinscher that has somehow joined our household. She is looking a bit apprehensive in the back of the car for the first time with the others. She is actually slightly smaller than Milly (the German Shepherd)'s head!

That must have been a really difficult decision to make. Wishing you all the best with getting James and Higgs back in the flat. They are both amazing cats.

Higgs emerged from under the bath this morning in order to say hello, she was purring and seemed generally happy - the litmus test is going to be whether she is on the bed/sofa when I get home, or is back under the bath again.
James has been much more relaxed and friendly, but still ran away down the drive when I opened the balcony door this morning, we'll see if he starts spending more time at home.

Milly and Rita seem to be getting on very well. Their first walk together today.

This isn't ours but like to pretend he is. We call him fudgy cat, he's super friendly and often follows me or Liz for a bit when we pass. He's also freaking enormous.

fudgy cat
Lol. Great name. Giving names to neighbour cats is even more fun than naming your own pets, I've found.

Definitely, there's also:
Toilet Cat- can often be found staring through our bathroom window when you open it to air after a shower. Weird looking scruffy bugger. Would be 'known to authorities' if it was human.Ninja Cat- skinny black cat that always runs out of nowhere when on bike, board or in car. Always cool as a cucumber and stops in the middle of the road before disappearing again.
Pisti- big fat grumpy street cat that looks like Pistanator.
