One of mum's problems is that most support for people suffering dementia is aimed at the 80+ bracket, which means she cannot really relate to anyone else and gets upset going to organised support groups, etc.
Yes this is a major issue since many people with dementia can be younger people depending in the cause. Inherited CJD or alcohol related dementia can affect quite young people yet as you point out @wjwat1 most services are directed at older people with activities such as singing old timey songs or reminiscing sessions about the blitz etc.
Should anyone know someone living in or near lambeth who has a cognitive impairment, they can turn up tomorrow and take part.
here are the joining instructions:
If they can't attend this week they can come on one of the following Wednesday sessions between 1000 and 1400 (see link on OP for details of dates)
Unfortunately mum is on the other side of the World back home in Australia, otherwise we would be there for sure. Hardest thing I have done moving here but my family is great and have been supportive in allowing me to follow my / my partner's life goals. We have a few de facto attitudes at the moment: "quality time, not quantity time" and making sure we all support each other. Bloody hard though.
The more I think about this the better an idea I think it is. One of mum's problems is that most support for people suffering dementia is aimed at the 80+ bracket, which means she cannot really relate to anyone else and gets upset going to organised support groups, etc. This would be a very good first step for people in the same boat.
