• y u no buy mine?! came with spider removal tool and everything :P

    it wasnt 3d plus tho

Are they sending the tool with yours?

  • Don't... I wish I had.

Was a bit reluctant to fork out before taking 3 weeks of holiday though. Turns out I can totally afford it, and I start a new job in august too.. Doh.

Re:tool - not sure, haven't actually placed my order yet. There are some good deals on quarq rikens kicking about I may also investigate.

  • great deals on the brand that must not be mentioned in this thread too

  • Stages? Yeah.. One is enough I think.

  • I had one of my Rikens die recently on the Dragon Ride. Internal short meant it was chewing through a new battery in 10 minutes, so even faster than my Stages.

It was less than 2 years old, so Quarq have fitted a new spider, and all seems well - haven't actually used it yet as I fitted another Riken - but all the P2Ms are still working...

  • I've never had a Quarq, but what you hear, time and time again, is "they were great about swapping it".

I honestly can't recall hearing about a P2M that has gone wrong.

  • Hmm

  • Not the ideal thread for this but best i could find...
Early morning ftp interval sessions on the turbo:

Is doing it fasted good or not? I'm not looking to lose weight, just to improve my body's fuelling methods for bigger efforts. The whole session would be 2x20 or similar.

I ask as amongst all the articles on the topic talking about the benefits, there are a few warnings that the riding should be relatively low intensity to promote the fat synthesis. Does hourish long sessions qualify as low intensity? I think the warning about keeping effort low is magazines etc covering arses about riders going out all day without breakfast and turning into a gibbering wreck when they get a mega bonk to some extent.

Is there a risk of burning muscle riding too hard when fasted? I always have good recovery food after turbo sessions.

    Thanks y'all

  • No. Fasted rides should be low effort stuff, zone 1 or 2. Do intervals when fasted and you'll just knacker yourself.

  • It doesn't matter what intensity you do them at (for your intended purpose) but they need to be longer. 1:45-2:00 hrs.

I can't think of a reason to do them above z2.

  • Fasted 2x20?! Arg blerg. No fucking way.

Low intensity, for no more than an hour. If you have to do it at all. Fasted exercise stuff always seemed like junk science made up around the same time cyclists thought having a fag after training was good for you.

  • I do fasted rides cos it means I get an extra 10 minutes in bed if I don't have breakfast.

  • Thanks guys. Good news that. Full English them straight into a 2x20 for me them.

  • If I didn't already have a fixed powertap I'd be considering this offer very much.. (assuming it fits onto SRAM S300 or Omnium chainsets(?)); Stages GXP for £375

  • Dont push push Z2 if Your blood sugar is low.
Your recovery will be crap. So training effect will be reduced. Or at the very least you'll be less able to Train effectivily the NeXT day. Which has the same net effect.

Low Z3 recovery miles is where you want to be adding the bonus of burning fat.

  • In other News I've added more Z2 training to my week.

Did 2 hours at over 73% last night. Kinda fun just riding fast (relative term). Totally empties me too. Together With a mix of 8 and 2om min interval days. I'm seeing good effect.

I'm going to peak nicely when Winter hits and everything is under a meter of snow......

  • Audax training.

  • Got to learn to keep that cup of tea and beans on toast down when launching out way too hard out of the each control.

  • What powermeter would the crowd recommend for a lower-mid level TT bike (something like the ~£1.5k PlanetX Stealth SRAM Force 22).

    Power2max?

I have a PowerTap wheel (SL+ in Mavic Open Pro) but see that more as a training wheel, and a non-hub based powermeter would allow me to play with different rear wheels, including fancy carbon things.

Don't want pedals so Garmin Vector is out. Don't mind it being one sided as I'm not looking for L/R balance or brilliant accuracy.

  • Raltec covers for your Powertap.

  • force 22 power2max

  • I'd spend the grand on a £100 wheelcover and the rest aero testing / working on your position. Maybe a skinsuit or lid if you don't already have those.

  • Keep 'em coming. I haven't heard the answer I want to hear yet.

  • I'm not looking for brilliant accuracy

    Why bother then?

You've been given the cheap option (wheelcovers) and the sensible option (P2M for your existing cranks), not sure what you want to be told.

  • Get a wheel cover; aero > weight for TT
