When we got ours at about 5 months old, they mostly just hid from us anyway. They were rescue kittens(found in John Lewis loading bay), so perhaps hadn't had as much human contact as happily raised ones. They're over a year old now and love us a lot. Still very flighty with other people, but they're pretty independent so that's handy.
