Is there no other method of getting your pack/number etc posted, without physically going to ExCel London?
-
• #1428
Nope, that's the only way.

• #1429
Cool, cheers. For me it's either trying to get in a bit earlier to ride with some guys I know, or having an extra half an hour in bed....

If you're fast, it's worth getting in the early groups - you'll have clear roads ahead and groups that will have at least a few strong riders willing to pull. And probably 20 or so buggers strung out behind you who won't, and then rejoice on passing your tired arse up the hills.

This year work has meant my training has consisted of airport food, hotel food and inactivity.
I'm going to be blowing out my arse.
Snap.

My 'tapering' was going to be a bit of gentle mountain biking in Wales to keep the legs turning. The beautiful British summer weather has meant I'm getting in shape by eating cake and hot chocolate by day playing boardgames, then moving onto crisps, beer, cheese and wine. Already feeling bloated with 5 days to go.

I rode 330km last week, with 3,400m of climbing - albeit over several days.
Last week was, however, far from the norm.
I'm starting at 6am again this year, and I suspect that my only hope of a good time is becoming the most aerodynamic person in the history of cycling.
In reality I'll be aiming to hold 250 watts for 5 hours, quite possibly whilst weeping.

That said, I averaged 214 watts when I did it in 2013. Maybe using this new, some might say revolutionary "don't go out too hard" technique which I tested for the first time this year in Norway I might get a better result?

This'll fall on deaf ears... but you could just enjoy the view and linger a little on those car-free roads...
-

Apparently my team-mates and I are having a meeting tomorrow to discuss strategy and tactics. All sounds jolly serious.

• #1439
^^ see?!

There's no moody black and white photograph in that I'll wager.

I got a charity place, but no-one i know would sponser me for riding 100 miles so I'm doing a 200k Audax on Saturday and attempting to do Sunday in under 6 hours. Treating it like a 400k with a sleep in the middle.
I have never done a 'sportive' only ride Audax so not sure what I will make of it!

So, 50mm Crabbon Fibber clinchers or Zipp 808 tubulars for Sunday? Head says clinchers, heart says 808s...
-
• #1444
I'll be using tubs, unless it rains. That's a point - what is the weather going to be doing?
-
• #1445
Current forecast is light rain showers, I believe. But who knows - still too early to say.
-
• #1446
It absolutely pissed down last time, if it does that again I'm staying in bed.
-
• #1447
Will the roads in the dorking etc area be shut all weekend? Am not doing the ride but was hoping to ride that way on Sat
-
• #1448
Sunday only.
-
• #1449
Tubs? On London's glassy and Surry's flinty roads? Hmm.
-
• #1450
Thanks mate. Didn't realise the pro race and the sportive were both Sunday.. thought they were on separate days and thus two days of closed roads.
Do you reckon Surrey will be rammed with people doing last minute training on Saturday?
I rarely venture that way but need a bit of a break from Kent so was thinking of treating myself to a trip west. Will get pissed off if all the hills are full of nodders weaving all over the place though. i like weaving all over the place on my own.
Not sure they will let you through early but last year my brother was about 10 mins late to the start and was just put in the next wave.
