  • Have you tried the replay? You can watch all the little rider icons dart across the screen right from the start all over again.

The speed and scale kind of skews the monumental effort being put in!

  • [ ... doing it on fixed ... ]

This Guy has already done Paris brest Paris, & Bordeaux-Paris with a fixed...

Neither of which have anything as lumpy as the Alps though, or the mountains in the Balkans, etc. Still, I'm sure he knows what he's in for.

<fixed_puritan>Needs to stick to just one gear ratio though</fp>

  • I think he does know, he got the gearing for it, and the mentality.

  • The guy on the fixie (no. 152) is halfway up Ventoux!

It'll be more interesting what happens when he's halfway down Ventoux. :)

  • @skinny now going for my avatar. :-/

  • He [the fixed rider that is] is at the summit now.

Anyone any idea what gear he is using. Is he changing gears for different sections?

  • For @cliveo

152 guy racing fixed (Stéphane Mehdi Ouaja, gearing 42x14 + 42x19)

So I guess one for flat / going down and one for going up

  • @skinny is in Susa, having done the gravel section. Complimenti.

  • I would be hard pushed on the flat for over 100 miles with either of those. I would need my 34/28 with a freewheel for Ventoux.

  • 42x19

    climbing gear o_O

  • All 4 climbs (and descents) of Ventoux back-to-back on 70.2" fixed (although he did change to 66.5" for the forest road climb): http://www.thebicyclestory.com/2011/11/paul-rozelles-24-hour-pre-pbp-fixed-gear-mont-ventoux-rides/

  • I don't know if Stéphane 152 has got a freewheel,
but he's got two brakes on the pic page 11 .

  • Jesus @skinny

    Killing it.

  • Incredibly impressive riding from Skinny- living the "go large or go home" ethos.

  • No you didn't. The comparison was between bikes.

For the record Ultan is very lean so his power to weight is likely pretty decent.

  • Ride on the start bars, no bother. I can say that though because probably, like him, I've spent days riding TT bikes through and over everything.

  • She was the cool chick 'racing the Italians' over TransAm in Inspired yeah?

  • Yeah fair play. He did say it handled really well, but I wasn't sure if he meant it handled well, or that it handled well for a TT bike.

  • The sketchiest thing on TT bikes is usually poor brakes, everything else is fine once you're used to it.

  • The organisers car seems to pay Juliana Buhring a visit.
That makes Emily Chappell the first female racer?

  • I'm getting properly addicted to following the tracker

  • Emily Chappell just under two hours away from the ascent of Ventoux. Hope she can descend before dark.

  • Doubtful. It'll be at least a 2 hour ascent with luggage and sunset is at 2109 today.

  • I wouldn't like to attempt that descent with lights.
