  • So here's another question for the functional nerds: If I slacken my head tube angle by about 1 degree, but keep the resulting trail the same, what would the effect on handling be?

I'm thinking about swapping my road bike to a steel fork, for greater tyre capacity. The Thorn Brevet is a similar length to the original with greater offset, and the Soma Champe Elysees fork is about 20mm longer, but with even more offset, both should result in a trail of about 40-44mm.

My inclination is to stick closer to the original to avoid messing with BB height, but I may do a 650b conversion anyway if I like the larger tyres, which would bring it back down a bit.

  • Bike will feel slower to turn but easier to handle off road.

If you have fit a fork with more offset, it should have similar handling.
