• This isn't really the thread for this, but having searched I couldn't find a better one.

I'm nearing the end of a training block that's gone fairly well. The one area I've struggled with though is the Vo2 max sessions.

Typically they'll be 2 sets of 3 x 2/3' at 120-122%. They feel hard, which I'm sure they should, but on occasion I've suffered with stitch in the final interval.

@skinny mentioned that he does Vo2 max work at a lower intensity, but for a longer duration ie 5' at 105-110%. What do others do and am I struggling with mine because the intensity is too high?

    Any thoughts welcome.

Ps. Just got an email saying WKO4 has been released at last and mac friendly too!

  • Tbh they should be horrible. At 2-3min long you're going really deep. Especially once you've done a few. So I'm not sure about the stitch, and why you get that (maybe nutrition?) but yeah they should kill.

  • Fair enough.

    Double?

  • Anyone know if WKO4 will be able to cope with swim and run data generated by my 910xt?

At the moment I need to use Training Peaks web software to monitor training across all swim, bike and run and then use Golden Cheetah for specific cycle power analysis*. Would be nice to have it all integrated into one place.

    *time wasting

EDIT - looks like it will http://home.trainingpeaks.com/products/wko4/charts .
I'm also amused to note the inclusion of a "WAC score chart" which allows you to tell everyone how good your power is compared to a pro's for any time duration. Name seems appropriate...

  • Double post.

And I'm not sure what training works for me works for others. I have a naturally strong 5min power and even a small amount of training makes it go up easily.

After all my riding around then FTP work it (5minpower) was about 400. Then with 5 vo2 sessions it went to 440. So it doesn't take much for me to bump it (having been doing longer duration work before)

Just got to try different things, but with a wider view on the training you've done before starting something different as it can have an effect.

  • It's definitely my weakness, so will plan to work on it. I'm going to see what longer intervals at a slightly lower intensity does for me.

Cheers for taking the time, as I know you have a small matter of a 2500 mile race to prepare for! Hope it goes to plan btw and all the hard work pays off.

    Smash it!

  • Try both types. It's just a different way of hitting the system.

Throw a load of eggs and see what stick.

    And thanks.

  • Why isnt TP satisfying you for bike Power data?

I find it Perfect for me as a 'semi sleeveless' cyclist. Gives me a lot of info for my swimming and running. While allowing me to og full nerd on the cycling.

  • You can't compare activities on TP - I find it's pretty fucking useless tbh. I've been thinking about binning my sub for a while, and now that WKO is finally available on Mac, it seems like a good time.

  • I've become obsessed with Strava's fitness/freshness and power curve pages...

I can see this being useful over a long time period, it didn't make much sense when I used it on the free BC trial earlier this year

  • I'm a pretty basic user to be honest.

But TP seems to do exactly what I want it to.

    I'm too old for change.

  • Yeah - it's not so much what TP can't do as the things that golden cheetah currently does better: comparison between rides, easy to split rides into segments, better CP chart, Aerolab, offline analysis etc.

I'm not sure that WKO4+ will do all of that, but GC is a sufficient improvement on TP that I'd be happy to use it as my default programme, however it cant cope with swim and bike which writes it off for general fitness/training metrics for me.

  • I can see comparing rides being Nice. I do that manually now. Usually on a climb that I've cut time on. See where the Power was used, where my HR peaked, etc. Last night I did 4 x 8min Climbs. Didnt take much faff to see that my HR:Pw was Nice even on the last one. So should have done a 5th. Would have been interesting to overlay them though.

But for the most part TP fits my usuage perfectly.

  • new pedal bodies/bearings ordered, hopefully I'll have a minty fresh set of vectors by this time next week, oh and a new turbo to beast myself on!

  • Some assistance required please:

System Six + Hollowgram SISL + SRM (mounted on Hollowgram obviously).

What combination of axle and spacers works? The original 104mm axle blatantly doesn't, the rear of the SRM hits the frame before the drive side cranks bolt is anywhere near tight. This is using FSA bearings, SI bearing covers, 3 x 0.5mm spacers, and the wavey washer. The SRM is properly fitted, the lockring flush to the rear of the cranks.

    Cheers,

  • Also, should the rear cover on the SRM be flat or slightly convex?

  • You need either the old SRM specific axle & bearing shield or the new 109mm axle I believe.

You can DIY it and grind off the lip on the 104mm spindle then adjust from the NDS if you are feeling handy.

The rear cover is a pretty crude bit of plastic really, not surprised if it has a profile.

  • Cheers Howard. I was surprised by how crude it was to in fairness. I will try and track down an SRM axle I think before turning down this one.

  • I've got a set of 130bcd rotor 3d+ MAS cranks on my cervelo - I'd like to use them with a power2max.
I'm a bit confused. Will they work with a p2max PM unit - or, do I need to buy another set of cranks?

Also (if they did work) would I need to buy a new spider to run a 110bcd p2m?

  • You need to buy the right p2m spider to fit those cranks. Which is this one I think;

    http://www.power2max.de/europe/en/Produkt/power-meters-en/power2max-type-s-rotor-3d-plus-and-3d-f-without-cranks-road/

You then take off the current spider and fit the p2m spider to the cranks. I'm not sure if you could buy a 110 bcd p2m and fit it to your cranks. Probably a question for p2m.

  • P2M is a spider ..

I'd say the the only thing diff between MAS and normal 3D plus cranks is the spider, you'd need the spider removal tool I think P2M has stopped shipping it with unit these days ..

  • Right, so technically I could buy a 110bcd p2m and use my existing crank arms?

  • P2max is a replacement spider, so just order whatever BCD you would like to use in the future.

  • Ah great. Was just a bit worried I might not be able to get the MAS spider off.

3 weeks from payment to delivery though... :'(
