• A loving new home is wanted for this 1979 Carlton Corsair made from Reynolds 531 steel. The frame has been professionally modified and painted and I have draped the gorgeous beast in very high quality brand new components! (I have included a picture before the restoration) Please see the spec list at the bottom of this page, there is not one rubbish part on this old girl.

The list below shows the professional modifications made to the frame by Ellis Briggs of Yorkshire. These guys know their stuff, they've been doing it for a very long time and have one of the best reputations in the classic bike industry.

New Reynolds 531 rear dropouts (135mm) to accommodate a modern touring hub.
Rear eyelets for mudguards and rack.
Addition of bosses for cantilever brakes front and rear.
    Removal of lamp boss.
Addition of STI barrel adapters on down tube.
    Frame re-tracked.
Top end paint job – blasted to bare metal and stove enameled Brunswick green (looks brand new).
    Fitted Tange headset.
    Applied decals.
Hand-built touring wheels (these chaps are one of the best wheel builders in the country).

I set out to make an ultra reliable, strong and comfortable cruiser. She is all three, with the addition of speed! The top notch wheels and modern road gear make this bike surprisingly quick. It is very satisfying blasting past modern carbon wonder-bikes on a 40 year old steel machine!

The bike is in showroom condition and has only been ridden around 60 miles. This is a complete one off, there wont be another one like it in the world. Please research touring bikes around the £2000 mark, you'll find the specs on this are on a par and in most cases better. I will throw in 2 brand new inner tubes with this sale.

This bike building malarkey has become a real passion of mine and I have a few projects in mind hence this sale. I think something even older but perhaps Italian will be the next hare-brain scheme. Watch this space as it may be on sale a few months down the line!

Please note, the panniers shown in the photos are NOT included in this sale. If you would like them we can come to an arrangement, they're brand new and I would sell them for a fair price.

I would prefer the buyer to collect but would be willing to drop the bike anywhere in mainland UK, as long as the cost of a 1 day car hire and petrol were covered. (Approx 40 quid for 1 day car hire and petrol dependent on distance) I don't trust couriers with something as beautiful as this.

Rules mate. You can't sell on Here if you also sell somewhere else

  • And, to me, £1200 is way expensive.

  • Carlton Corsair (as I recall they're just 531 main tubes, not forks and stays) sell for between £80-160 on eBay, complete.

How you think this may be worth any more is a mystery I myself, and the forum members are waiting with baited breath for you to explain.
