I've always taken the piss out of people here for loving Seiko. And now I've bought one...
-
• #16953
I've wanted one of these for years but was always put off by the quartz movement, a very pretty watch...
-
• #16954
It has a sweeping seconds counter which is cool. 7A28 is nicer, but more pricey.

The one you posted? I thouht it had diamonds. My mistake.
I still don't like it.
One of my "grail watches" is the 50th anniversary FF. Bit smaller than the new ones.
I've also got an eBay search for the Helson but they always seen to be ridiculous money.

Diamonds on a watch? Are you mad?
-

On a boys watch? Not really for me and I've got no plans to become a rapper or head of a cartel/developing state.
Wouldn't mind being an oligarch though. Plus I'm already in London.
-
• #16958
The prospect of being an Oligarch doesn't really appeal to me.
Being Charlie Munger appeals significanty more.
Never wanted fame, but would've loved notoriety.

Interesting bracelet. I thought they came with zulus

Going to pick one of these bad boys up on Friday, most likely.
The only niggle is its £900 for a g shock.
But it is awesome, and will last forever. -

The Seiko came with that bracelet, yet it is fitted with solid bars. I guess they must press the end links on in the factory.
It's a nice watch, though they do feel a bit cheap compared to a Swiss watch.

for the money i would have thought you could get something that was as robust but classic enough
to look chic when you get older. that said if you can get anything over £200 for it in twenty years time it would not have been a waste of money (considering its a watfch you actually like) -
• #16963
is it the same as the RAF Seiko watch but with bracelet?
-
• #16964
Exactly. I reckon the earlier "Gen. 1" 7A28 could be quite nice. It uses a very well respected movement (all metal parts), so it's fully serviceable and not likely to prematurely wear.
-
• #16965
That is definitely not the watch I would buy if I had £900 spare
-

I have a Gen 2 and i think its a lovely watch personally. Obviously its to small for me but other than that, i think its a definite classic.
One day i will buy a Gen 1.
I see Pulsar "RAF" watches. Are these genuine RAF watches?
-
• #16967
Yes, the engraved Pulsars are genuine RAF issue. However, they stopped ordering them as the crowns (and stems, I think) kept falling out in use. I believe it had something to due with pressure changes in a Tornado cockpit. My Dad has one. The build quality isn't up with Seiko, and the centre-seconds constantly counts like a normal seconds hand, and the sub registers are used for counting. The Seiko Gen. 1 is probably a very good investment still. Prices are climbing.

I always balked when they were around the £500 mark, have they gone up that much?

• #16969
Issued or non issued in your opinion?

£500 is a more recent price for a 7a28, but you have to wonder where that will go if they were only £250 not long ago.
-
• #16973
Issued or non-issued 7a28? I think they only made ones which were issued of the 7a28. It was designed for the MOD effectively, if I remember correctly. My 7t27 is civilian, however, I saw an MOD sale recently where some of their ex-issue 7t27 watches didn't have the case backs stamped. This sometimes happened when they needed to acquire extra units at short notice, I believe.

i agree with B&D. The FF is subtle. It aint no Rolex in bling bling.
