Black tape was so last year... ;-)

Nice find. Thanks.
I've noticed the front forks don't actually have guard mounts! They have rack mounts though. Does anyone know any good options for QR type guard mounts?
-
• #6
Use longer bolts and stick them on the same eyelet? makes taking the front wheel out a lot easier.
-
• #7
Use the mounts on the side of the fork legs. That way the brake calipers won't be in the way when attaching the mudguard stays.

@Jon. & @russmeyer thanks. I was thinking of doing that but wasn't sure if it was possible. Happy to give it a go now

My example below - mudguards are fine on the fork mounts. Be careful though, the bolts are stainless but the fork inserts are alloy. Very easy to over-torque and strip the threads (mind came pre-stripped and had to be sent back!).

That's brilliant thanks for confirming this. And really sweet ride. Are those 650B wheels & tyres?
-
• #11
They're the standard 700c wheels it came with (but re-tensioned as they were pretty flexy out of the box) shod with Panaracer Paselas 35c. It's my daily commuter.
Considering doing the same thing - going 1x10, with racks for pro-muting/light touring.

Didn't get it at first, had another look, that is one short rear guard. Wonder if @deasuk2013 likes riding at the rear when out with chums, fookin hope so.
-
• #14
It's my commuter, and I'm lucky if I see one rider going my way a day, so I don't worry too much about the rear mudguard!
I had to hack it down due to the pain in the ass bike stands we have at work.

Skin is waterproof guys, calm down ;-)

And manners cost nowt! Well apart from the price of longer mudguards.

Again, sub'd, just picked up an xl frameset. Looking forward to putting it together!
-
• #18
Seems these framesets are becoming popular!
-
• #19
Too good a deal to miss out on. Going to take my time about this one. Missus doesn't need to know about another one...

Hey, looks nice. Especially the new wheels!
I'm looking at one of these too. Did you weigh the frameset by any chance? -
• #22
No I didn't the weigh the frameset before starting to assemble. Had a look online and failed to find any figures either. Let's just say it's not the lightest.... :-)
-
• #23
I was looking to buy one of these, weight was like 1800 grams for an XL frame. Don't remember of what year, so may be different

Ok so this is how it stands as of today. I've still to add the mineral oil to the brakes, tape the bars then add pedals. She's weighing in at a hefty 9.2kg right now. So no weight weenie!
Stage CX race bike is almost complete. The next stage is to be able to easily convert to a touring bike. I've got spare wheels that are campag freehub. I've heard that 11 speed systems are virtually identical in shifting ratio now and Shim/SRAM/Campag cassettes are all comparable. Can anyone confirm this?
On the wheel I'll be putting some wide tyres. Any recommendations for a good touring tyre?
Also I'll be looking for front and rear racks. Hopefully get a matching pair in black. I'd like a small one on the front. Again, has anyone got a recommendation?

That turned out great. Congratulations. Also, the black bar tape is a stylish upgrade ;-)
Thanks to @chrismcr for the inspiration to do my own 'Current Projects' thread... instead of hijacking his I decided to start this...
Anyway here goes. The bike started life as a SS built up with various Campag parts I had lying about. But since I'm a fiddler (not in the Jimmy Saville sense......) I can't help buying new parts and 'improving' things.
So the plan is to turn it from SS to a CX race bike/Tourer/Commuter/Baby carrier
Here's what it initially looked liked
And here's what I looks like now
Parts I have amassed for the re-birth so far are
SRAM Rival 22 Cranks
Shimano Ultegra Mechs
Shimano RS685 Shifters & calipers
Clarks 'YBN' chain
I'll be re-using the lizard skins tape unless people have any better suggestions?
What are folks suggestions for front and rear racks plus a good set of mudguards?
