Advice; good bike shops in Amsterdam?

Posted on
  • Yes I know the place is full of crappy rust buckets, but my g/f is living there now and is in desperate need of a decent bike. Her current rust bucket is falling apart....

Anybody know of any decent bike shops? She's after a nippy little single speed - not a traditional slow heavy dutch bike.

Preferably somewhere they can build one up for you, or offer you something that isn't a no-logo fixie....

    thanks in advance

  • Presto on the Haarlemmerstraat is also good but if you want a SS I'd also recommend Meesterknecht

  • cheers lads I'll take a look! Anybody been to this guy?

yes he has arrospok but w/e she aint getting arrospok.

  • Keep an eye on marktplaats too. Search for singlespeed / baanfiets etc. Lots of conversions and track bikes to be found.

  • Baanfiets! cheers!!!

  • Guys, thanks for all your suggestions.

Seems I'm also moving to Amsterdam next month! Will be needing a decent commuter and weekend bike when I get there.

I'd really appreciate it if anybody comes across anything in the next month to give me a shout.

I normally take a small/53cm frame, and was hesitantly looking at something like a vigorelli/mash or equivalent track bike/frame. I say hesitantly because I know bikes get nicked all the time, but I'd really want something to enjoy long flat rides on during weekends.

    Cheers in advance!

  • Like mentioned above, check marktplaats. Loads of ads. and pretty affordable.
About the Amsterdam bike theft; true! Alwasys double lock and preferably to a steady object (Lamppost, bridge railing etc.)

Let me know if you need help translating any Marktplaats ad.

  • Yeah I have, mostly overpriced in comparison to stuff on this forum. Pity there's no AFGSS....
