  • Welwyn Garden City

39 miles, one slightly draggy hill, a few undulations, a (usually dry) ford, and a travelator.
Trains 19:18 from Kings Cross arrives WGC 19:50
    Trains back 22:28 22:53 23:31

  • I don't think I'll make this - Have fun!

  • Just changing the bicycles over... discovered that one other tyre fell victim to the towpath of the Lea Valley ride: my rear 'open pave' (note not, 'canal towpath'; nor the front, which seemed previously to have a slow puncture, despite suddenly feeling resiliently hard!);

@RodMunch, did your Open Paves survive the towpath challenge intact?!

  • My rear Panaracer failed at Saturday's second attempt at the Lea :(

Also my pump failed so it was a double canalside repair.

Still in for tomorrow. After spotting a couple of bald patches from skidding should I replace the rear tyre? Probably yes, given that I'm riding out.

  • Killing Me Softly is a tyre killer inner tube piercer, noted your good advice to take a more hardy bicycle!

  • I'm 50% in for this, riding out and training back if I make it. Will be able to say by 4ish tomorrow. Normally wouldn't ride out but finish at 430 amd God do I need this miles.

  • i had a slow puncture too.

  • Welwyn is lovely for tyres. In fact it will even mend existing punctures. FACT!

  • I was too busy taking selfies to get a puncture.

  • By the way if can pull Bad Dad mode and make this I'll be on gears. Managed to somehow fuck up my headset changing the stem on the Condor and now it needs the attention of someone who knows what the hell they are doing @Rod_Munch #jimwasright

  • My Pave survived ok thanks - although your recent record with them is now making me nervous. I'd been getting about 5000 miles per puncture on Rubinos so I'm not used to this!

Shit news on the headset YAL - time to blow the child support on a Chris King?

  • £120 quid! Jesus wept. Although now I'm tempted...

BTW if anyone has a reasonable route other than the A1000 to WGC do please shout.

  • yes, very oddly, whilst with a pierced rear inner tube, my front tyre is still hard, despite previously being soft by this much time after a pump-up!

(still avoiding taking anything less than a Schwalbe Marathon on that canal in future though!)

  • having read It's All About The Bike, you gotta CK it YAL!

  • dark clouds out there btw, ride safe WNKRs,

  • I take it back: the A1000 was really nice. Crouch End tho, what a shithole. I got mugged with a block of artisan cheese and got stuck with a mortgage I couldn't afford. Bastards.

  • Managed to get a train to Alexandra Palace in the end. Ride home from there was uneventful - one wiggle of the cable on that light and it worked all the way.
Excellent evening guys. I almost didn't wake up this morning.

  • It doesn't get any better than last night for me when it comes to riding.

    Some pics!

    Wheetabix!

  • missed out on some good ones this summer. i will be back....

  • Team Waffa-Pretorius-Ikea will need a wildcard to get back in at this rate..

  • I was in the lab. Increased my watts by 3% since last time I was in the Lab.

I ticked off another spoons afterwards too.

  • Had a pint at Spouter's Corner, the 'spoons up at Wood Green, last Saturday after the cinema. Wouldn't recommend it for the ale, the entertainment, on the other hand, was fantastic.

  • Chapeau chaps,
