Had my birthday recently so decided to splash out a little. Really wanted some SiSl2's for this but theyre difficult to get hold of and fucking expensive when they are available.
They would have been the lightest option so I had to think carefully about how to keep weight as low as possible.
After deciding on Red22 cranks I figured I'd just choose the lightest options for it. These also happen to be very a la forum at the moment with BB30, compact chainrings and 165mm. The shortest cranks ive ever owned by far and weight was very pleasing.

I guess if you wanted to get them built, Novatec SLs, sapim Lazers (or CX ray£££) and Kinlin XR200 would get you lightweight.

Pave wheels which are pretty light and very cheap at £150. Looks pretty good in polished silver too. -
• #7
Those are not light – about 500g per rim.
-
• #8
Light for the price.
Otherwise http://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/arc22-ultrawide-rim.htm
Fashionably wide and 20/24 hole.Stans No Tubes ZTR Alpha 340 Rims are one of the lightest clincher rims also.

Are reynolds attacks not weenie wheels? :)
I did a mock up that weighed 6kg on the nose without stem, bars, cables, shifters, pedals or tape. That was with heavy wheels though so should drop a chunk of weight off that. Once sub 7 is reached I can look at 6.8, 6.5 and sub 6 and where would be cheapest to achieve this. Currently the main priority is getting it up and running@Acliff I was looking at the xr-200's but they seem hard to find in the UK? If i did go with that I would definitely get CX rays as a 385g alu rim isnt going to be stiff whatsoever. How manageable would sub 2kg wheels be including rim tape, tubes and tyres? I already own some 250g tyres which I plan on using

Arc22 definitely looks tempting. I was expecting to have to compromise wide rims to drop below the 450g mark. Do the stans not have issues running tubed when trying to install and uninstall tyres? Cheers for the help

No! Attacks weigh around 1450g ..
http://www.stradawheels.co.uk/product/alpine-attack/ .. an alloy wheel set at 1358 claimed and if you swapped the Aivee hubs to Novatec super lights it would be about £130 cheaper for little or no weight change. Probably cheaper still if you can source and build yourself.
Don't run stans tubed! .. Go tubeless! SCHWALBE Pro One. No inner tube.

The pulse sprint rims in that wheelset are 430g but cost £70 on their own instead of the £40 for Arc22 430g rims.
Hasnt it been shown that tubeless isnt that much lighter as the rim tape is heavier and sealant takes up a lot of weight?

Sorry if I've missed this but what's the fake ENVE seatpost?
-
• #14
China carbon one. Looks excellent and weight was very surprising.
Im going to try and acetone the logos, cut it shorter and see if i can modify the clamp to lose some more weight

You wouldn't happen to have a link would you?

Tried to find it on Aliexpress but doesnt seem to exist any more. Just keep checking every now and then incase it pops up again

Road tubeless is the future! I agree the weight's are similar, unless you're using extreme tyres and tubes like Continental Supersonics, which you are obviously not if your tyres weigh 250g. But if the option is there, then why not use tubeless? The benefits of tubeless as I see them are the self sealing ability and in theory the lower rolling friction.
-
• #18
why not use tubeless
Because they're slower.
-
• #19
My CAAD10 comes in at 6.84kg, I've not got super weight weenie about it but there are plenty of parts I could change to get it down even further.
-
• #20
If you're looking at tubeless, why not tubs? Shed a load of weight off the rims straight up.
-
• #21
Tubeless and tubs are basically opposites when it comes to dealing with punctures.
-
• #22
why the 165mm cranks? To save weight?
-
• #23
If both have sealant in, how so?
-

Tubs still working for you?
Bought this frame off here a few months ago from @AMAC. Had two options when I recieved it; build it up heavy, shit and 8spd with existing parts OR build it up light, fast and 11spd with new parts. Option two was chosen with a sub 7kg goal. Doesnt sound like a massive challenge with some of the sub 6kg and 5kg builds around but the frameset is already +2kg. This also means I'll be able to get a sub kilo frameset at some point and drop a shedload of weight in one go.
Some standard forum components have been chosen, notably the Planet X skewers coming in at 42g, a fake Enve seatpost at 180g (I may also be able to cut this as I won't need the full 400mm) and a Kalloy Uno in 110mm with the logos acetoned a 114g. There are pictures on scales if anyone is that bothered.
I'd also like some advice on some new wheels to build as I'm unsure on road wheels. They need to be 11speed and alu ideally as I'm going to run Force22 and this bike will probably be ridden in the rain at some point. I weigh around 60-65kg so happy to test out some weak as shit sub 400g rims and low spoke counts.
Frame is a 54cm CAAD6 Saeco with BB30 btw. I'll post up some other individual components in a bit but heres bare frame weight for now
Also looking for some Force22 shifters if anyones got any going, as RRP is a massive pisstake
