I was thinking just that, was marvelling at how brave those people on bicycles are for heading toward the road without slowing down at the slightest.

i agree, but at abbey road there are almost always people waiting to cross and half the time they do so and pause for a picture in the middle. If you drive past there often you tend to not treat it as you would a normal zebra crossing

Just watch the differences between vehicles stopping for bikes crossing in that Dutch (I assume) webcam, and vehicles not stopping for pedestrians at Abbey Road.
Then imagine what will happen if you try and put Dutch infrastructure on roads with drivers with British driving menality.
