Whats the cheapest way to hire a small car for a a weekend trip to Portsmouth and back
Check http://www.carrentals.co.uk and be flexible about where you pick up from - a little bit of travel can make it a lot cheaper. (Last car I booked was a Nissan Qashqai from Hertz in Dartford and cost £34 for the weekend (unlimited mileage).)
Get a 3rd party excess insurance policy rather than paying the hire company for their supercover (we've got an annual European one - £36 from https://www.icarhireinsurance.com - but a weekend is under a tenner).
