Personally I'd say that for the twenty quid or so a cheap winder costs it can be worth it. I tend to wear the same watch through the week and then different ones at the weekend so I stick my weekday watch on the winder to avoid having to redo the time/date on Monday morning.

The flip-side to that is that it takes seconds to adjust any automatic with quick-set and as the watch is constantly running on a winder it will inevitably accrue more internal wear than one that isn't. Not just my view but shared by a friend who's been a watchmaker for many years.
