  • I think most will be fixed or SS.

It is flat but bumpy, there are 2 hills of note enroute and then a few in the last 10 or so KMs on the South Downs (but we will be walking by then because 15/20% chalk ascents can >>>>>).
People have come on MTBs and Crossers before (and a Lo-Pro too..).

  • First half is river path/canal/river path, second is old railway line.
    No real gradient potential.

potential bar to watch tour de france not sure how far its out of the way?

  • That is almost on the route, except I think we will have well past there by the time the Huez climb starts.

  • cool. will keep it as it isthen i think (48 -18) , not been on one of these rides before, is there a shared kit-list or anything or should i just bring what i need e.g spare tubes, tyre lever, few alan keys etc?

  • Self-sufficiency always wins.

  • kewl. thanks!

  • ma3k, how near are you going to Horsham? Beer stop? could meet you guys?

  • Not sure about timings yet though.

  • @Brameses my 2p, on my steamroller with 32/35c tyres 48x19 it was quite knackering to keep pace with the trick and geared bikes on lower ratios because the path doesn't let you maintain your momentum so you are constantly pushing to keep the speed up on the uneven terrain. I was wishing I was a tooth or two lower at a few points tbh

it's a great fun ride but don't expect it to be a complete cake walk is my advice.

that and take some clean wipes, you will get very dusty.

  • Have fun guys. I'd love to come but helping out on the FGL event from early arvo. See you in the evening I hope!

  • Looking forward to this.
What about trains back? I've been stung once before booking tickets for a set time and then going on an earlier/later train, and then getting fined.
Tickets around 6pm are about £11 at the moment. Or do we just show up and buy?

  • We'll get them at the station as a group.

  • A lot of us will be getting off at Camberwell.

  • If you are going to be late, don't.

To catch up you could try heading (on-road) straight to the S/W side of the bridge at Kingston (or N/W side of Hampton Ct. Bridge).

  • have to bail out of this unfortunately. not fit enough to keep up after recent op & time off bike. have a great ride guys - weather looks perfect

  • Saturday is looking like the bright spot in a dark and wet weekend.

Leaving 08:30 N/W side of Hammersmith Bridge.

  • Gutted, but I have to bail. Was looking forward to this so much - it's a lovely ride. Have fun!

  • @HatBeard , thanks for the heads up. Might chuck the 44 front on the pomp to make 44/18 or see if i can squeeze the 32s onto the rat to make 46/18. Both are fixed but sounds like spinning out wont be a issue on this ride so smaller is better

  • We are on around 63GI and that seems to work.

  • well 44/18 is 64 so that'll be the one for me then.

  • :(((( dammit! was super on this but my saturday just got hijacked and held for ransom :/

    enjoy!

will have to find out how all ya'll got on at FG1oYR!

  • Checked 3 weather services and it's looking good for tomorrow.

    Tour highlights then bed..

  • Ha 10/33!

    Fast group though..
