No, but there was strong public awareness of what fascism and socialism were, they were the political ideologies that everyone had an opinion on. People in the 1930s knew what fascism was, much more than we do today. That's why Edward Wales and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon have no excuses for this sort of shit.
