The silly thing is, I actually agree with you, and I had similar qualms about my cromovelato somec. That's why I tried 600 AX for that one. Looking into a Sachs new success group now, but I couldn't find the correct bars yet.
I want to give first-gen C-rec a go nonetheless. In retrospect, calling it "something special" may have been a bit generous!
I absolutely love dura ace from that era though, and it is on my wish list...
