which kind of wizardry is needed to hold the top cap?
Not really necessary as the headset doesn't need pressure from a top cap, but ideal to stop water and dirt from falling in the forks...I've seen weight weenie caps for people who remove the tensioner after clamping the stem, just a push-in bung like a handlbar end plug.

Most likely, in 2011 Camano's 695 you can see that the cap is way smaller than a regular top cap.
I'm puzzled if running a standard stem on the Look slotted steerer might result on uneven pressure that can cause damage to either stem or steerer. But if Endura Racing did years ago, I'm sure it's pretty safe...
Anyone knows if it's possible to use standard stems on 695 forks?
