Ordered a replacement board and a set of wanglers to get at the original. Wanglers came first so I thought I'd practice the removal. Removed the board, gave the usb port a scrub and reassembled. Bloody thing works now...

Ah, success! And I s'pose as long as the part wasn't too pricey it's always nice to know you've got a spare to hand if it goes tits up again.
